351078 2005-05-02 23:19:00 DSE prices are fine on a lot of products, all shops have certain items where they can supply at a good price and others that can be higher then elsewhere, Its no reason to try and roast an outlet. From what I have seen DSE have very good prices on Routers. Metla (12)
351079 2005-05-02 23:22:00 I brought a wireless G router off them 18 months ago for $178 now they are clearing it for $118 if you can find one. It's great and its there own brand or rebranded plod (107)
351080 2005-05-02 23:38:00 I've been following this thread very closely and I've asked myself the question "Why don't I like DSE?"

And my main reason is that there is never a parking space anywhere near their shop! That is important. I can't walk very far.

Second reason. In my experience their staff are dumb. No computer knowledge.

Overall their prices are higher than a lot of others. Strange but not the main consideration.

Now if someone were to start a thread "Why does anyone shop at Noel Leeming?" :angry :angry :angry

351081 2005-05-03 03:43:00 Oh dear . :( How can DSE still be in business with all this "expert" disapproval . ?

Perhaps DSE manage to please more customers than they displease .

I have noticed that people have been happy with their replacement policy when anything goes wrong . I doubt if they could be so good in that area if they cut their margins to the bone .

Any shop selling technical products will have a proportion of staff whose knowledge is limited . They learn with time . Or leave .

351082 2005-05-03 04:07:00 I love DSE!

Great place to go for a cheap Rtl8139 NIC. They also stock little connectors that many other places dont.

They may not be the cheapest in the land, but for convenience, customer service usually beats most other places I know of.

Im with Graham on this one...

351083 2005-05-03 04:28:00 You love DSE? :dogeye: :dogeye: :dogeye:

Anyhow, What they do,they do pretty well, I refer people down to them when they need something quickly off the shelf, though I do have to near do the salesmans job for them and supply the part number or the bright sparks steer them up the garden path with the wrong product based on their sales experience rather then real world knowledge . On many occasions I have had to send people back to get the original item I pointed them at .

This is perhaps why they have such an airtight return policy?

I still wouldn't touch any rebranded gear,cyber-drives or expect any relivant computer knowledge from a salesman . Ask them where the current video card they are selling fits into the overall scheme of things, whether it will work with your system, or how much performance increase would be expected against the cost?

Then ask yourself if you should be shopping elsewhere . . . . . .

But why do I always get the ones with "limited knowledge"??????????

351085 2005-05-03 05:37:00 I am a gadget-man and one store is just across the road from my work and I can't help walking in every few days, just in case something new has turned up. KiwiTT_NZ (233)
351086 2005-05-03 05:37:00 You didn't say what brand routers? dear i say it but are you comparing apples with apples or with oranges, If you state those coments back em up with a bit more info, Even in small cities like wellington you have choice, but not passed lunch time on a saturday or sunday, dse is the only place and convienace always costs

I did state "DSE cheapest router". That will be the XH1169. I have verified the information with their website just before I posted my entry. I was simply comparing cheapest router from DSE, and cheapest router elsewhere..

351087 2005-05-03 09:46:00 hooray for DSE, for they are most cool. with there new testing facilities, there products should be of top notch....

Take a read.

"Dick Smith Electronics is recalling a motorised mini-bike, because of a missing screw.

It is supposed to act as a safety feature if welding on the Micro Bike Max 250 Mini Bike fails.

However the screw is missing from some bikes.

Dick Smith General Manager Stu Meadows says they were contacted by a parent after a wheel came off one of the bikes.

The screw in question goes through the steering column at the top of the forks.

Mr Meadows says no-one should ride the bike if the screw is missing.

Dick Smith has sold around one thousand of the bikes since last October."

Morons....Of all the stupid things they could of messed up on.....they forgot to check for the saftey feature on a motorised childs bike...lets all reward them buy buying more of their crappy products.
