652068 2008-05-12 01:24:00 Yeah its only a baby clock though 2.4 -> 3.0ghz I dont recall what the temps are off the top of my head, the freezer 7 pro simply takes care of it without fuss. the only issue was getting it onto the cpu due to the asus mobos jungle of heatpipes around the socket but once that was overcome its been superb. its quite a tall HSF the tips of the heatpipes coming out the top come real close to touching the side panel of the case, so there wont be any funnels or ducts you can use.

Thats interesting.......I thought I had done all the correct measurements, as I have a wind tunnel in my case which isolates the RAM\CPU etc, from the other half of the mobo....I was pretty sure the the AFp7 would fit inside the tunnel as shown here (i13.photobucket.com).
Will have to rethink if it doesnt. The deminsions 126\107\97 will fit inside.

Oh, and a 3Ghz clock is really all I'm looking for....

652069 2008-05-12 02:12:00 i'm not a 100% sure if the Freezer 7 pro would fit in there. with that ducting you have.

In my case the Thermaltake Mystique case i have has a little air tube that acts as a vent from the case side panel and sits just above a stock Intel HSF, once the Freezer 7 went in this had to be removed and binned due to the height of it.

Note how close to the top the ends of the heatpipes are.

652070 2008-05-12 02:30:00 Jeez, it will be close, there is a 120mm fan that is 10mm proud of the motherboard. If the assembled HSF is 126mm tall and 107 wide I should be good, otherwise I may have to apply some heat and mold it in....I'm banking on a extra 5c over and above the AFp7 performance with the isolated tunnel.....with some nice blue fans it should give nice moving reflections through the tunnel...w00t! 652071 2008-05-12 02:41:00 yeah its a behemoth of a HSF, with that ducting of yours you might be able to drill some holes in the ducting to let the tops of the heatpipes poke through then seal around them with grommets even, cause silicone or similar to seal it would look bad.

They do make some more conventional fan on top HSF's I use one on my HTPC which might suit your ducting a little better.

its this one here from memory, not sure the htpc isnt known for being a jerk and needing inside of the case loving, so i havent seen in there for a while.

But thats just on a HTPC which isnt the beast that the gaming machine is, the bonus of the alpine 7 pro on that machine is that its nice and quiet, i dont want to hear fans while i'm watching media.

652072 2008-05-12 02:48:00 Yeah, saw the review of both Alpine and the Freezer, the later is much better...So, could you please measure the high when mounted and width across the very top for me?

I'm pretty sure the tunnel is 140mm though it does tapper in a bit at the side. Is the HS 129 or 107 wide?....

652073 2008-05-12 02:55:00 No probs

the gaming machine is about due for its regular dust blowout (damn you dust), so i'll get in there with a ruler/tape measure and get some measurements for you.

I highly recommend Freezer 7 Pro, it simply dont care about overclocks, just takes it in its stride really. the downside is its size and weight really, on tower box i would imagine that its weight causes a bit of stress on the mobo mounting brackets, not something i'd go lugging around to LAN's for example cause i'm paranoid about my baby :)
kersonan (13264)
652074 2008-05-12 02:58:00 Mate, the AFp7 is a baby compared to the tuniq or TRUE systems....truly, thats why I want it, the others are VERY big....

Edit - TRUE specs= Dimension: L63.44 x W132 x H160.5 mm ()
Weight: 790g

WTF??
SolMiester (139)
652075 2008-05-12 03:07:00 Perhaps we should start a new thread for HSF discussion, as i fear we have derailed this one :)

I did look at the Tuniq tower, as it has the clearance from the socket to get above the copper heatpipe jungle on my mobo, but the overhang over the ram sockets i didnt like the look of. and I'm not one to turn down cool looking techy stuff at the end of the day.

and as much as i was interested in the idea of the HSF potentially poking out the side of my case from a "wtf is that hanging out of your comp" angle it was another downside at the end of the day
