351048 2005-05-01 08:23:00 I am guilty of buying from DSE as the shop I mostly buy from is not open on a Sunday.

It is not my preferred shop.

I do know exactly what I want before I walk in.

Nah trees just get in the way of toxic waste dumps and industrial bulding sites.

351052 2005-05-01 11:27:00 Apart from what has already been stated, they have the best priced laptops by far, (currently $1197.00 for a good entry level with a 15" screen) a far better deal than the outdated crud the warehouse is selling by the truckload for over a hundred dollars more on special.

351053 2005-05-01 11:40:00 What I don't get, is why people still buy from Dick Smith? Granted, some things you can only buy there, but computer accessories like keyboards, adsl modems, CD-Rs . . . . . WHY?

Guess what, you don't have to buy there . You can go elsewhere . I purchase stuff from DSE . They are competitive in some areas .

What I don't get is why people buy big thirsty 4WD's and do the grocery shopping (must be all those river fords) :o

351054 2005-05-01 11:42:00 1- Convenience . A fully searchable online database . Stores everywhere .

2- Communication . It's normally easier to get what you want (from the staff) at DSE

3- Product Base . Is there anything electronic they don't have?

4- Reasonable prices . On most products anyway . Sure you can get stuff cheaper elsewhere, but does it have the same warranty protection, is it as reliable and is it as easy to get to/find?

5- Honour & Pride . Yes, that's right . DSE is what got me started . Those cool little Funway electronics kits . I would probably be outside in the garden hitting things with a stick if it wasn't for my first soldering iron .

351055 2005-05-01 11:44:00 I would have preferred the trees . . . . . .

Speaking of tree wastage . Dell . They send us 4 brochures a week and then they send us 2 faxes every weekend .

I don't buy Dell . My parents don't buy Dell . We've never brought Dell . We never will buy Dell . Why does Dell want us to buy Dell?

351056 2005-05-01 14:33:00 I buy from DSE quite frequently (including the ADSL modem I use, the crossover cable and network card that allows my sister to use the old computer etc. etc.), but I always know exactly what I want before I walk in (down to having their part number written down) - saves on the "do you mean this bit, that bit or that other widget" dance.

However, I would *never* purchase a PC from DSE, unless theirs was both cheaper and better than I could find elsewhere or build myself. I also agree with Metla ..... their prices on sundry items often tend toward the ridiculous. :annoyed:

351057 2005-05-01 16:21:00 The reason I buy from DSE is simply that they are the only shop in town that has what I want.
Some shops have some of the things that I want but I have no intention of trapsing all over town looking when I can go to DSE and get what I want.
Some of their prices are ridiculous I know, but if I want something in a hurry it's a case of pay and shut up.
For major computer items I e-mail Ascent Technology and they always get them to me within 24 hours
