651710 2008-03-23 21:05:00 Sorry about the triple post - we need a longer edit time period. ;)

Reboots do nothing to the card - the driver works fine. :D

EDIT: No it doesn't. :(

651711 2008-03-24 02:05:00 I have been unable to get any FM801 soundcard to perform properly under XP or Vista 32.
I have a number of these cards in stock so will be thrilled to hear if any of our knowlegeable people have found a way to do this.

651712 2008-03-24 04:15:00 What is written on the main chip on the card? Or any number on PCB?

I recently had an issue with a Yamaha X-Wave QS3000A card, apparently these are rebranded FM801's BUT my chip was a different shape to the FM801 even though linux detected it as FM801 and used it fine.

Under XP installing the FM801 driver resulted in nothing happening

I installed the QS3KA driver and it worked fine (after enabling onboard amplifier)

There are a lot of FM801 drivers on driverguide, maybe you're just going to have to go through them all and find which one works for you

Try this site: dev.kewl.org he even gives drivers for it which might work

Is this because there are no correct drivers for them?
What OS are they made for?

651714 2008-03-24 05:12:00 I have a suspicion - after installing the drivers and rebooting, Windows played the login sound perfectly, but from there on no sound came out of the card. I think it's an autoloading app that comes with the driver that stuffs it up.

The drivers I downloaded were for XP.

Written on the chip (shown on the page Agent_24 linked to) is this:

ForteMedia
0023
H4Y02.00

651715 2008-03-24 11:30:00 So yours actually is a ForteMedia - did you try the drivers on that site or still same problem? Agent_24 (57)
651716 2008-03-29 10:07:00 I have a Forte Media card which works fine with XP/Asus M2N-MX SE, but I took it out as it was causing random lock-ups.( the onboard sound never worked on this Asus )
I think I will try a USB card when I have spare cash!

That doesn't make sense... how can it work fine if it causes random lockups?

Make sure you have the onboard sound configured/enabled in BIOS, the hardware is setup properly (front panel wired properly so that rear panel actually gets signal, or using bypass jumpers if no front panel audio present) and installing the proper software if using XP.

651718 2008-03-29 19:13:00 Now the card isn't being found at all - so I've had to revert to the onboard sound until my friend can get me a spare one. (All I wanted was the MIDI jack.) pcuser42 (130)
