Agreed

651516 2008-03-26 08:29:00 The only problem with system restore is that it occupies too much memory, so you need to resize it. SPARTAN 860 (2618)
651517 2008-03-27 06:57:00 2. Problems upgrading to Vista SP1? try typing "sfc /scannow" in cmd admin mode without the quotes

This worked a treat for me. I was eagerly awaiting SP1, but when it came (windows update, automatically) my PC wouldn't boot after the install; I had to keep rolling back. I did this step, and it installed with no worries. Cheers.

651519 2008-03-31 04:04:00 Some more new tips

If you want a faster startup, type msconfig in the start orb search box, press enter. Then click on the boot tab, and tick no gui boot. Then if you have more than 1 cpu, click advance options, then tick Processors, and click the drop down menu, and select the max no. of processors you have. Click apply, and then reboot. My system was much faster at booting up after this.

651520 2008-03-31 04:11:00 It would have been the Processor settings you changed possibly - the tick no gui boot, simply shows the Aero Effect on start up, and hides the green bar loading drivers that moves across, I have seen no speed difference yet in start up by changing that gui setting on any PC. wainuitech (129)
651521 2008-03-31 14:28:00 how about just turning system restore OFF? It's a piece of junk anyway

what a silly statement.......system restore is VERY helpful in some circumstances for many people.......labelling it 'a piece of junk' is simply your view and not backed up by any useful information anyway.............

Second that statement - system restore has sometimes saved hours of work in fixing faults esp when you install a program and it all turns to custard so to speak.

651523 2008-03-31 21:36:00 Well, from my experience, when I tried to use it, more often than not it would ruin my system further. And if it didn't do that, it would just say "system restore could not restore your computer to an earlier time"

I think in all the years of having XP and using system restore, it was useful to me maybe 2 times. and not useful to me a whole lot more.

Yes it probably can be helpful but for me it isn't :(
