651281 2008-03-21 06:45:00 Hmmm Nod 32 or ESET Smart Security is a system friendly anti-virus program, does a good job of keeping malicious software OUT of your system, just like Windows Defender (Eset keeps outs viruses, Defender keeps out spyware). Kaspersky and Spyware Doctor is the die hard super anti malware programs, but does the same job of ESET and Defender when you don't have malware on your system in the first place. Eset however is very good at catching viruses WITHOUT definitions, perfect for zero day attacks, whereas Kaspersky isn't good in that field at all. Overall, if you are a gamer with a mid end PC or just a normal pc user, go for Eset. If you are a gamer with a high end pc, or a power user with a high end pc, it doesn't matter as your high end pc can eat both kaspersky and Eset programs for breakfast. SPARTAN 860 (2618)
651282 2008-03-21 07:07:00 I prefer counterspy actually over spyware doctor but its kinda slow when it comes to updates Ninjabear (2948)
651283 2008-03-21 11:13:00 Sigh, all programs can be cracked, Kaspersky and NOD are just as easily cracked... Eset Security Center however, is harder to crack, due to its rarity (its new) The more common a program, the more cracks there are.
Nothing is absolute. Cracked versions of Kaspersky do not last long compared to Nod32. Put it this way I have not found cracked Kaspersky to last. They're closing the loop very fast.

651285 2008-03-21 14:07:00 Kasperspy works to close together with gouvernment institutions for example with the BKA (federal police in germany). I think thats no good sign.->catchword: Bundestrojaner Crow1985 (6683)

651287 2008-03-21 21:23:00 Thanks for the input guys, I will most likely download both trials and try them out myself. Nod32 seems to get good reviews in general but from my research the eset smart security seems way down on the list compared to KIS.Should I look at running nod32 with a standalone firewall? or is the eset smart security firewall pretty good?

Can you elaborate further with this comment?

Spyware: Spyware Doctor and Counterspy, should I run these two ? Turn windows defender off or leave it on? Any other good programs?

651288 2008-03-21 23:47:00 I ran the ESET Smart security before.Despite disabling the firewall protection it still kept blocking utorrent and kept blocking ports. You can permanately disable the firewall and can only temporarily disable it.

Smart security frustrates me so I ditched smart security

651289 2008-03-21 23:49:00 Actually

Due to the fact firewalls block ports of bit torrent and games like Command and Conquer online i don't even have a firewall running

I find it really frustrating even though you tell zone alarm to enable the application to run it still blocks the port.

I can't be bother wasting time configuring any firewall software.I just don't run any firewall not even the windows one

Why can't someone make a software so that if its disables it disable and if its allowing an application to access the internet it would allow it not like something like smart security where you disable the firewall it still blocks utorrent.

Maybe before rubbishing the software you should "Learn How to Use It" - you can allow what ever port or port range you want through the firewall.

Its easy - simply open the firewall, click on "Configure Rules and Zones" , under Zones select new / local / port - and either select a single port number or a range of ports that you want to allow access, it also has the option to allow what ever program you want through any port. Open Port Settings (www.imagef1.net.nz)

So to answer your complaints - it does do what you ask.
