351548 2005-05-03 12:04:00 didnt Harvey Norman once sell those Nokias for $99?

Yeah, Nokia 1100.
Great little phone - battery lasts me 2 weeks. And a very useful LED light for a torch in the middle of the night :)
99 bucks was a good deal - that was 6 months ago and I haven't seen it repeated there or anywhere else. (no sim card though but I just used the one from my old phone)

351549 2005-05-03 12:08:00 I would defintely advise going for Vodafone....

Not because I'm biased towards them, but because you're going to use them for backup, right?

Vodafone phones, use SIM cards... That means that you can take out the sim card in one phone, pop it into any other (even your friend's), and it'll work. You retain the same number. Easy! Just open battery door, take out the sim card, and transfer that.

For telecom, you can't.

Simple as that... Go with Vodafone

I used to work for Telecom Mobile and I advise you go with Vodafone, unless you want some sort of data plan. Vodafone's GSM technology is a lot older than Telecom's CDMA, but then the GSM handsets are a lot more reliable and cheaper.

Only thing with Vodafone is if your phone gets stolen, your **** outa luck. They'll just swap the sim card and no one will ever know.

However if you lose your Telecom and you report it missing/stolen, if the person that found it/stole it tries to take it into a Telecom store to get the number changed, Telecom will simply take the phone off them and ring you. Very useful.

Your charm is exceeded only by your wit. Alas, only 50% combined score.
