2005-05-02 11:16:00 | Sad people news.bbc.co.uk Emails and text messages can decrease a person's IQ more than smoking marijuana, according to a new study. Workers are increasingly addicted to checking their messages, with 62 per cent admitting to doing so from home or on holiday, the study into the effects of 'infomania' found. But the research from the Institute of Psychiatry found that these actions actually cause a ten-point fall in workers' IQ - more than twice the drop caused by smoking cannabis. Dr Glenn Wilson, who carried out the Hewlett Packard-commissioned study, said the solution to this temporary decrease in intelligence was simple. "The most effective way to deal with the problem is to switch these things off," he said, adding: "We have to learn to control technology rather than letting it control us." The effect on workers' concentration of having to be on constant standby to react to incoming messages is similar to that of losing a night's sleep, Dr Wilson said.

2005-05-03 13:52:00 | I actually didnt expect a majority of people would be with vodafone.I thought it would be a mix...Looks like the $10 txting doesn't affect everyone! | Ninjabear (2948) | |
2005-05-04 00:03:00 | All I want with my mobile is decent reception at my place, then i would be able to use my free off-peak minutes more and save on tollcalls. I'll go with any cellphone company that can give me usuable reception here. | Andrew B (867) | |
2005-05-04 08:09:00 | I actually didnt expect a majority of people would be with vodafone.I thought it would be a mix...Looks like the $10 txting doesn't affect everyone!I don't text enough to make the $10texting deal attractive. Those i know that do are inevatably on 027s The majority of my contacts are 021 they're the ones who aren't text addicts. It seems that vodaphones major attraction is that they are not Telecom. Telecoms major attraction is that they have $10 texting. :D | personthingy (1670) | |
2005-05-04 13:25:00 | Personally, I don't txt that much anyway..... I prefer to call... Example: Friend is late, the whole group is waiting for him... If you txt, you might not get a reply... And then, you wonder if he's all right, whether he got the txt, etc.... And you might just end up calling anyway.. Might as well just call.... $0.5 with motormouth now, plus double top-up = $0.25.. Not too bad for 1 min....

All the young people I have talked with about cellphones say "Telecom sucks", even when I tell them they could save heaps by going with Telecom $10 texting. It does seem that Vodafone's marketing has worked with the young set. Personally, I am with Vodafone and will stay with them since they have Motormouth and double-your-money top ups. |

2005-05-04 21:03:00 | I guess I'm the only sucker on TelstraClear (029) :xmouth: - TC uses the Vodafone network, but we don't actually get any of these deals passed through to us. I'll probably just buy a vodafone prepay for the weekends | pixeldust (6619) | |
