351138 2006-10-10 22:27:00 I know this is outdated and should be locked... but I have to post my thoughts :p

I recently done an electronics project and needed a lot of components without notice and a large variety of them, the people at DSE, half of them did not know what I was talking about with the components and left me to sort it myself, that is not really very good service.

Just my :2cents: worth.Yeah, but DSE isn't the only one suffering from people who don't know what the hell they're selling. Go into any chain store (Bond & Bond, Harvey Norman etc etc) or most large companies (Telecom is a good one) and you'll find idiot-osis is rampant

"Woolworths owns DSE" Ha ha, that wouldn't surprise me

Where did you hear that?

As far as I know, the original Dick Smith (an Australian) is still alive. Until recently, he was making the adventurous small-plane flights he's renown for.

I suppose Woolworths [B]may[B] have bought the business..?

(Edit)
Yes, you're right.
Wikipedia has it all.
He sold it way back in 1982.
Interesting.

351144 2006-10-11 03:13:00 I had a chuckle at this

Smith founded Dick Smith Foods (DSF) in 1999, marketed as a crusade against foreign ownership of Australian food producers, particularly Arnott's biscuits. DSF only sells foods produced in Australia by Australian-owned companies. Dick Smith products are often named to parody the items they compete with — for example, in competition with Redheads matches, Smith sells near-identically packaged matches called Dickheads.
