351128 2005-09-15 02:02:00 I recommend DSE A4 glossy photo paper. It is cheap only $20 for 50 sheets and gives excellent results. ;)

don't know which one you go to, i get it for $18

351130 2005-09-15 09:22:00 As far as service goes, I have always had a good experience with their staff. In the Lower Hutt branch there are a lot of ignorant salespeople, but there is one fat guy who can answer every question I've ever needed to ask. He's also happy to go into considerable detail, and if he thinks you might be about to get yourself into a trap (even if the product will sort of do the job) he'll go out of his way to tell you to avoid problems later. If the ignorant ones don't know enough, they just refer you to him.

351132 2006-10-10 11:45:00 Hi!

I'm an Aucklander,but I guess it'll apply to the other cities as well . . . .

What I don't get, is why people still buy from Dick Smith? Granted, some things you can only buy there, but computer accessories like keyboards, adsl modems, CD-Rs . . . . . WHY?

The price is at least 150% compared to other stores, and almost twice as much compared to small computer shops . . . .

Oh, on another point as well . . . . Just a quick survey here . . . Do you guys know that you can bargain at electronic stores? Like when you buy TVs, computers, "the big ticket items" . . I was quite surprised the other day, when someone just bought a computer for the shelf price . If you just ask them "What's the best price" for the item, they often reduce it by about 10% at least

DSE ROCK!!!

you don't like? . . u go elsewhere uh??? lol

14 day money back deals - try the reduced to clear deals - I have - and saved heaps!!!

why ***** when the choice is yours??

351133 2006-10-10 12:25:00 whoa, HUGE thread

I think DSE (powerhouse) is great its my favourite store I go there quite often. I am a Vip with them so I get some good discounts, their xbox games are the cheapest I have seen I will be getting Jade Empire for $76.41 when its released this month. Most of the stuff I buy comes from there

EB is the cheapest, tell them the price of another shop and they beat it. plus u get a 7 day money back guarantee, which is long enough for people to clock/pirate games so i really dont know how they make any money lol

well cash talks when buying, and even on credit
As for dse, first port of call always open, name pops up on pricespy often at the top which usually pretty cheap!.

yes, always open, and closest to me also, but i'm afraid super cheap pc shows up on the top of all the hardware lists, not dse.

What I don't get is why people buy big thirsty 4WD's and do the grocery shopping (must be all those river fords) :o

lol i dont understand how they can complain about petrol prices either. really i will use my 250cc motorbike to get around. no parking hassles, no traffic hassles, no ridiculous petrol costs, and MUCH more fun! i do have a 1300cc starlet which only gets used once a fornight or so, mainly as a mate of mine lives on a LONG gravel road

So a solo mum goes into a shop with her 10 year old daughter and it is her responsibility to check that is safe,I can't for the life of me think that is reasonable.

solo mum? does it matter? consumer buys product, turns out it's unsafe due to manurfacturing defect. manurfacturers fault, and so they accept responsibility and recall product. not DSE's fault.

Im about to buy a Wireless LAN from DSE, they've got to 802.11g card for CHEAP!

i got two gigabyte brand ones for $35 each from supercheap about 6 months ago. worked and still work fine

I can't see why technology would stand still, because we don't understand it,or need it.

"neccessity is the mother of all invention", but i agree with you nonetheless, as someone ALWAYS needs (or wants) more

I do infact use DSE occasionally, but usually regret it when i get home and check pricespy. they are, however, conveinient and have an excellent return policy, although this can be said for most auckland shops, with the exception of super cheap pc. super cheap are right ****s about returns/refunds, even of faulty goods. but again if you buy the right bits it's good anyway

351134 2006-10-10 13:34:00 I don't usually buy from dicksmith.

I was hoping to buy a Extend Usb cord the other day and saw it selling for $36 or was it $16?

I can't remember but got me yelling at the price because it only costed me $4 overseas

351136 2006-10-10 19:11:00 DSE aren't the cheapest, but they are convienent and their specials are good enough. Greven (91)
351137 2006-10-10 19:52:00 I know this is outdated and should be locked... but I have to post my thoughts :p

I recently done an electronics project and needed a lot of components without notice and a large variety of them, the people at DSE, half of them did not know what I was talking about with the components and left me to sort it myself, that is not really very good service.

Just my :2cents: worth.
