351474 2005-05-02 07:49:00 Idea: To establish national Lost/Found Pet Bank via nationwide feed. Ideally independant of any particular one site, for overall instances that others can utilise.

Point so far: Integration of main stream to site:

Add/Edit/delete
Can be done via Form posts, Would anyone recommend differently to this? They would need to be validated against the main server, with a reference special key for edit/delete

Get/Search/List
Main databank is downloadable say daily in a *.xml or *.csv file or similar.

PHP & ASP.NET can take data off a webpage
What about ASP Classic/V3 and CFM? to do it automatically i mean

Certain data may require user verification key to access

351475 2005-05-02 07:57:00 Maybe a revision note for changed details. So the sites can check ocassionally and go aha LastUpdate>2005.05.02 6:52:00 and ergo we must update

or would someone recommend another way?

351476 2005-05-02 08:15:00 Why is it that people are so compelled to find more difficult solutions to problems than necessary!? Why not just a free modified PHP bulletin board system?

Besides, more original ideas would help...

(not that I'd endorse that site because they're kinda exploitive)

351477 2005-05-02 08:22:00 Build a better system, build a better way to manage and improve what the system is managing.

Later tonight PetsOnTheNet has asked me to call them, i would rather if i code something more advanced, it not be limited to one venture.

Why do they want to build it? Why do systems get built? because its easy?

Was building the internet easy? Was laying all the phone lines easy?

Does doing whats easy help the country?

351480 2005-05-03 07:54:00 Sounds like a decent idea . You should link to or involve the SPCA . They don't have any money to spare but they do have enthusiasm . Also get radio stations on board . Many run free "lost pets" announcements and might be willing to post details on the site .

The main hurdle is to get the site known, so you need to approach the organisations which deal with lost pets . City councils and vets come to mind .

Good luck .

351481 2006-03-24 03:37:00 Well... who needs to make one up when the government will have their database of microchipped dogs?

But do you think that they will use it for the 'convenience' of dog owners? ie, have a tag on dog and if you find a 'lost' dog (dogs are never lost, they are just sniffing), you enter the number of the dog in the government dog database and voila (or the the database gives you a referral number..for privacy sake) the contact details of the owners are there.

But no... they will want to make money out of this. I've written about my opinions on http://doglinks.blogspot.com/

and further lost ideas can be found on

Ideally there will be a system for other forms of life as well.

I suspect anyone is out for some gain: money, politics or otherwise, that's life; what may be worth considering is 'if i make a gain for them, can I make a gain for myself and others'.
