652785 2008-03-26 01:54:00 Some devices are recognised and function perfectly but an A75 Canon camera and a Zen Neeon MP3 player generate the message:
"USB device not recognized. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it." There are no warnings in Device manager, and it seems strange that some devices are working and others not. I am running XP SP2.

It has been suggested to me that some Windows updates may have this effect. The computer had USB 1.1 and I installed USB 2.0 but this made no difference to the problem.

Any help would be welcome.

652786 2008-03-26 01:56:00 How long ago was SP2 installed?

If you install this recently, delete the USB controllers entries in device manager, and reboot.

It is not my computer but SP2 was installed ages ago, and everything was functioning OK up until recently. Putting in the USB 2.0 card made no difference to the current problem.

Have tried both -- no difference.

So this is an add on card, is there any USB 2.0 ports on the motherboard & is there a similar problem with them?

652793 2008-03-28 03:27:00 This has solved similar problems before but no guarantees!! It's danger and cost free so worth a punt.

Unplug the power cord from the machine and leave it unplugged for a couple of hours (or leave it overnight) then try it again. (Lets capacitors discharge I was told).

Good luck.

To expand on that - hold the power button down for a minute or so, while the PSU is switched on but unplugged. That will really drain all the power out. May as well reset the BIOS for good measure too.
