| 652400 | 2008-03-24 21:17:00 | Hi, I have a laptop for some years, due to an PC upgrade in a yr. Its a Intel P3 600Mhz with 320MB RAM (max). Running Windows 2000. It has been updated with security updates is that making it slow over time and with the equally bloated (AVG) virus scanner too? I have noticed that it was faster after a format and reinstall if windows some yrs ago but now I have used Spybot, AntiVirus, AVG Anti Spyware, CCleaner, it helps but its stiill somewhat slower .. I find that the HDD churns a bit upon bootup and takes longer and when I open something in the background like MSN Messenger it chursn before bringing it up. I have allocated 384MB or something or virtual RAM into D: which is my 2nd partition (its 8GB free). There is nothing in my startup folder other than my calibrated monitor software. I have also uninstalled software I don't use and MS Framework and I have deleted software entries (permission) of Zonealarm. Thanks. |
