652269 2008-03-24 04:27:00 Hey I know this is probably a really dumb question, but is there a way to network a printer together on two PCs without having the pc (which the printer is connected to) on when the other PC (without the printer connected) wants to print? Thanks in advance, I'm still a noob on networking :( My first time having to do this.

I use Vista Ultimate on my Old PC and Premium on my new PC. The printer already works on both PCs but havn't tried printing when one is off (the one connected)

652270 2008-03-24 04:31:00 You can only do this if the printer is independantly network-capable (i.e. it has a network port on it somewhere) or by buying a print server for it. There is no way to achieve what you want if the printer is connected directly to a PC. Erayd (23)

Ha! I was going o ask the same question, I have a network capable printer at work that is currently conected through LPT1 port, I have a comp at home but no printer, so if I connect the printer at work to my router how do I tell the work computer(connected to the same router) and the home pc to the printer?

652274 2008-03-24 06:11:00 If the comp with the printer attached is turned off the printer won't work, but I have found that just by having my comp on even without logging into it my printer will work from the other comps in my house, although I am going to get a cheap print server to plug into my router and then plug my usb printer into that so only one comp needs to be when everyone else is away. gary67 (56)
