351895 2005-05-04 03:05:00 Yeah, really (www.livescience.com).

A guess being wrapped around a tree would come to be considered a parking aid feature; a failure to start in the morning would be a theft-prevention feature, and high fuel consumption would be helping the third world oil economies...

351896 2005-05-04 03:22:00 Yeah Right!

Pity MS dont put more effort into developing an operating software that doesnt crash or have holes in it. Dont think I would be to interested in buying a vehicle which relies on MS to run it.

351898 2005-05-04 04:01:00 Imagine the carnage. Cars stopping dead at random in the middle of busy traffic. Having to get out and wind your windows down and back up to get going again. The car suddenly doing a u-turn because it felt like it.
Hackers accessing it and steering you into a wall.
The mind boggles.
I hope Mr Gates is the test driver.

351899 2005-05-04 04:06:00 In a recent case a BMW was hijacked. They got the owner to start it, using the thumbprint identity checker. They didn't want to take him with them, so they threw him out. After removing his thumb, so they would be able to restart the car.

Microsoft do sell a fingerprint authenticator for computer login. So they'll get it right. One day.

Oops: it was a Mercedes. The story's in comp.risks (catless.ncl.ac.uk).

I always wondered if thieves would resort to improvised field surgery in those cases. Ditto with retinal scan ID checkers.
