| 652227 | 2008-04-04 22:11:00 | Well I don't really want to spend too much. So I guess i'm gonna stick with quad core and DDR2 ram. Are the nforce chipsets any good? Better or worse than intel? Also whats the difference between OEM and retail operating systems? I see that you have to purchase OEM with a piece of hardware, but is there any other differences? Thanks |

I always use them. Only problem is they may not qualify you to to purchase an upgrade version of the next windows. |

So you can use OEM discs to reinstall windows? Do you get support from Microsoft? I assume you get no fancy packaging/manuals neither? |

Yeah you can still use OEM discs to reinstall there's no real difference with the CD's its the product key that matters. Microsoft will still support OEM versions. Who needs the fancy packaging anyway. |

| 652232 | 2008-04-11 12:15:00 | Ok cool. Thanks for that info. By the way, are Seagate branded hard drives any good? Better or worse than Western Digital? From what I understand Seagates are the better choice due to longer warranty. After doing some google searching I have found out that Seagate drives are pretty noisy plus performance isn't as good as WD drives. Is this the case? Thanks |

| 652233 | 2008-04-11 12:50:00 | I run all Seagates and they are not all that loud. though my new 500GB drive is quieter than my older 320GB. As for speed, my 320 and 500 can transfer data at 70MB/s on SATA1 between each other, that is fast, a lot faster than the 2 old IDE drives I have in RAID0... :illogical As for comparing between Seagate and WD, I and not sure. |

| 652234 | 2008-04-12 08:58:00 | Is your new 500GB the new 32MB cache model? If so, do you find any performance increases from the 16MB cache model? | EviLClouD (12981) | ||
| 652235 | 2008-04-12 21:28:00 | Yes, it is 32MB. I would need 2 drives exactly the same only difference being the cache to really answer that as they are different models due to the age, so can't really be compared as HDDs are getting faster each model. But I can tell that it is faster than the 320. |
