Well regarding the monitor, I just wanted to know what opinions others had. Apparently the 226BW had a panel lottery where the panel was not guaranteed to be produced by Samsung. Does it still occur now? What kind of panel is the 2232BW?

Thanks

652219 2008-04-02 18:21:00 I the days of DOS and Windows 3.0 there was a saying. "You can never have too much ram"
Same thing still applies.
XP or Vista will use what they need, (or can use). Any surplus will not do any harm.

You need a 64bit O/S for 4GB.
You can do 3GB but check what the motherboards wants first, if dual channel you may find you'll have to do 2 x 1GB plus 2 x 512mb.

Sasmsung monitors have a 3 yr warranty. Why worry?

652221 2008-04-02 21:55:00 for the case why not save some cash and buy an old ugly white one from somewhere cheap paint 'er up and its good as new. Gloss black spraypaint with gold (metalic) or silver highlights along the case panels, it looks good as i've made a few myself and am preparing to sell. otherwise good selection of products but remember keep room for upgrades. 652222 2008-04-02 21:58:00 do you want to think about DDR 3 instead of DDR 2? VISTA PRO (13532)
652223 2008-04-02 21:59:00 what are you useing the PC for? if its gameing xp/vista dual boot generzl work xp maybe vista it depends. VISTA PRO (13532)
652224 2008-04-02 22:21:00 In response to Vista Pro's comments:

A more expensive case is usually a lot bigger than some cheapo white one, it will often have a lot more drive bays, room for more/bigger cooling fans, better airflow, tooless drive bays, just generally better layout & design.

Stick with DDR2 at this stage as DDR3 is not really mainstream right now and is far more expensive than DDR2.

If you're going Intel, get a P35 chipset. They're cheap & they're fast and it will last a few years until you need to upgrade - plus they take the new 45nm CPUs.

652225 2008-04-02 23:51:00 If the OP is looking for a new case, I would like to recommend mine as I have already worked out the gigabyte board fit very well allowing for an Artic Freezer Pro 7 to be mounted and still keep the Wind Tunnel. With some window tape sealer at the bottom and around the tunnel where the AFP7 is, the tunnel will completely isolate the CPU\VRM and mosfits from the chamber containing the Graphic card.

The top chamber not shown, does require a fan install with some holes to allow the HDD's a way to cool down though....

652226 2008-04-03 07:54:00 Asus is better than Gigabyte as i heard from tomshardware that they had a chunk of plastic melted from the 4 pin molex which srewed the power connection of the mobo.
DFI is better than ASUS.
24 inch lcds have full High definition if you watch movies.
Intel 8 core codename Nahelem is out start of next year. DDR 3 memory have lower latency then DDR 2. Q9450 can only be OC to 3.5 GHZ as the Multiplyer is very low. The motherboard can't keep up with the high Bus Speed.
