652721 2008-03-27 07:43:00 You dont have to KILL a system with a lot of AV and anti-spyware programs.

You'll install so many, they'll conflict with each other.

Then, you're back to square 1. Covered in malware.

You only need ONE AV program and ONE firewall

And maybe something like Rogueremover which removes rogue software

Well you dont need a firewall, just use XP's if you dont use P2P programs.

Just dont go to any dodgy sites or download anything dodgy

652722 2008-03-27 07:52:00 Not really, I only have one firewall and one av on my pc ZoneAlarm and Mcafee(OEMed) You can have up to 3 anti spyware programs. 2 av = BSOD 2 firewall = lockup 2 anti spyware = safeish system SPARTAN 860 (2618)
652723 2008-03-27 08:08:00 Well you can have as many as you like, just dont have them running all at the same time. In the background.

Just dont use 2 different programs that do the same thing (like scan email)

Thats when they'll start conflicting with each other.

It'll be like having a war, on who can kill whatever first, then they'll kill each other in the process.

2 AV's wont cause a BSOD, but using 2 AV programs, and 2 firewalls (and if both are running in the background), they'll probably conflict and slow your system down as well.

652724 2008-03-27 08:27:00 I use use more than one anti-spyware apps, nobody sane would run 2 Avs at the same time... SPARTAN 860 (2618)
652725 2008-03-27 08:47:00 @ Pancake :
well so the update is that with Avast! a few files were detected and ALL were deleted according to it.
I will post a new HJT log now, but i think its pretty much the same as last time.
Also, the wallpaper keeps reverting back to the one which says "you are infected blah blah"...
But i think we are making progress, definitely!
No more alerts in Zonealarm about any outgoing connections etc. so that has certainly stopped.
Waiting for further instructions from you, thanks for your patience.

652728 2008-03-27 12:17:00 You added them but did you do FULL complete scans with each one?

I noticed one obvious thing.. You are using IE6!!!! please put IE7 on over top and see what happens.

652729 2008-03-27 13:13:00 Get NOD32 as well! Best AV out there. beeswax34 (63)
652730 2008-03-27 19:56:00 There are a few things you need to do - looking at the Hijack log you have both AVG & Avast Antivirus - bad move - only 1 AV otherwise they can conflict.

As mentioned several times get nod32 and set to how I said in the link posted.

Normally I dont like symantec ( like many others here) but every so often they do give good advice, heres how to Manually remove it (www.symantec.com) - Symantec call it differently, but its the same bug - be VERY careful editing the Registry - only remove the EXACT ones it tells you, other wise you may make the PC unbootable. If the objects are not there, then there is no harm done.

Your Host file may have been altered, if so that has to be fixed - instructions in the link above.

Along with the other suggestions you can also try using This here - free version (www.malwarebytes.org) set to full scan.
I used it yesterday on a VERY infected PC much worse than yours, that and along with Nod32 pulled out over 200 infections - The quick scan removed 70, left the full scan running over night and removed many more - runs sweet as now.
