You mean as a background service, as it is with Vista (which I'm sure there are less for than against), or as a "defrag as you go" deal which would basically forgo all benefits of how file systems and HDDs generally work. |

Well for XP, a 3rd party application that incorporate both auto defrag, without comprising any benefits within the file structure. Perhaps the programmers of defrag software or hard drive manufactures could design such software. Many hard drive manufactures seem to ramp up data storage size, but perhaps more research into file allocation order within the sectors might help, so that that defrag would be unnecessary (Probably limitations or complexities though). It seems no real research of note has been done about preventing or at least reducing defragging...but much has been written about how/why to defrag and hence the wide choice of software to defrag...There must be even a slim way out if someone bothers to research defrag... |
