353510 2005-05-09 19:10:00 I bought my Dell Dimension 4600 when I was in Malaysia. All I did was ring them up to book the computer, 2 days later they sent someone to collect the cheque from my mom, 5 more days later, they delivered it. Initially, they promised that they would deliver it between 2pm to 7pm. However, they only came at 8 or 9pm to my house with a big lorry and deliver the computer.

Cheers :)

353511 2005-05-09 20:57:00 Have you spoken to the courier him/herself?
This should not be difficult to do as there is usually only one courier per district .
If the courier company will not give you their name, you can find the courier depot via the phone book (or ask any courier of another company) . Go to the depot and speak to them, along with a voice recorder or digcam video recorder . Ask to see the signature on the 'recieved docket' and take a photo of it .

Another idea is to print this entire thread and fax it to the courier company head office's manager . Is the courier company named in this post? (I cannot see it . ) If not, name it so we can all see .

The problem is that Dell will only believe what the courier company will tell them .

Of course if you can cancel your credit card charge then there will be no need to do this, but the credit card company may ask the courier company if it was in fact delivered and signed for .

353512 2005-05-09 23:53:00 hi guys,
I tried to chargeback the creditcard payment from the 26th of april, but American Express says they can not do that (??!!). They can do an 'investigation' which takes 12 weeks to complete and charge me 7 $ for that..... That is not going to help, so I will keep the heat on Dell as well in malaysia as in here in New Zealand, as one of you gave me some details of the Dell people here.

ill keep you posted, in the meantime do not use my Amex anymore to buy stuff i do not immediately get in my hands.

Cheers

353513 2005-05-10 02:24:00 Update after 30 minutes waiting in a phone queue at the call centre in Malaysia: no news, they are waiting for a copy of the proof of delivery from the courier. Won't tell me what the name of their NZ courier is and all the 0800 numbers that I found, also in NZ phonebooks, lead to the Malaysian call centre. terribly bad music while wasting my 30 minutes on the phone.....
They refuse to tell me who their New zealand agent is, just say 'he is involved', so it must be a man, leaving me to just 2 million to choose from......
Probably phone them again tomorrow.....

Cheers

353514 2005-05-10 02:54:00 Johan, try asking any courier in your area who delivers Dell computers .
They will know - it is not difficult detective work . Also ask them where
that courier's depot is and go there when they are loading up - this usually is between 5 and 6 AM . You can contact the head office; managers are very interested in correcting complaints, especially if they know all of us here on PF1 are interested in the outcome (i . e . it is not a closed, private matter) . BTW, I used to be a courier . :) Keep on this and act quickly - don't delay .

As someone else (above) said, couriers can deliver to the wrong address . I always would ask the person if the residence was such and such address and if they were the person the package was addressed to . Most couriers are very helpful and honest . If you could talk to the courier who made the mistake, and keep it light without coming down on them blamingly hard, they will probably help you get your PC back . Just tell them you have a problem and need their help sorting it out . If they get snarky, mention their manager's name and say you were hoping not to involve the head office .

I wonder why Dell will not tell you the name of the courier company?

Thanks for posting this . An interesting predicament .
Best of luck .

353515 2005-05-10 03:11:00 Well, I would guess that Dell didn't reveal their couriers name because they don't want you to take matters into your own hands... ie beat up the courier guy or something like that...

My friend had bought from Dell before, and it was misdelivered. The normal procedure is for them to get the evidence from the courier (which is happening for you now), and once they verify that the signature is not yours, and thus the courier's fault, they'll send another one to you...

353516 2005-05-10 08:19:00 Very best of luck Johan. If I can help in any way !!
Sorry I got on my hobby-horse (a very old expression if that makes sense).
Did not mean to detract from your predicament.

Another day passed, Dell did not contact me, despite all their promises . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

353518 2005-05-11 06:21:00 Without detracting from your predicament Johan (I too would be pretty pissed having laid out serious dosh for an item that was mis-delivered), and without knowing your physical location relative to a computer store, this is a great advertisment for supporting local business .... IMO there is nothing quite like doing business the old fashioned way, i.e. face to face. andrew93 (249)
353519 2005-05-11 07:55:00 Hotkiwi, what was the elapsed time between you purchasing the laptop and contacting American Express to reverse the payment?

I thought you had 14 days in which to reverse a payment for non-performance reasons (time elapsed, poss midnight to midnight or end of business day to end of business day, could depend on transaction processing). I believe this is NZ law, not at American Express' discression although administrative fees may apply. It's worth checking out anyway or if one of the other members can clarify. It may also pay to contact the call centre for the cards issuer, for eg; the bank in the case of a bank issued Amex card.
