652994 2008-03-26 20:01:00 I have a USB mouse which I use via a USB tio PS/2 adapter plug. Over the past week I've been having issues where I would need to reboot several times before the mouse would work.

And as of yesterday, it no longer works at all. I can plug this same mouse into USB and it works fine.

Why would the ps/2 suddenly stop working?

PS. I've also used this mouse and ps/2 adapter plug on another computer and it worked fine, so it does seem to be this computer... any ideas?

652995 2008-03-26 20:17:00 Have you tried another mouse/PS2 adapter on your PC (using the PS/2 pf course)?

If it's an older PC, the PS/2 port may be a bit wonky.

Just trying to isolate whether it's the mouse, the PS/2 adapter, or your PC's PS/2 port

652996 2008-03-26 20:30:00 PS/2 uses a IRQ. Due to patches or other changes this IRQ can be used by
some other hardware. Stay with your USB mouse. If you force it to use a IRQ you could have all kinds of conflicts. Your IRQ's are limited and when you run out of spares, you will have all kinds of problems. darroll

I've used the mouse and adapter on another computer and it works fine.

I really need to use the PS/2 because I have it plugged into 2 computers via a switch box (which I have bypassed at the moment to make sure that wasn't the problem)

I haven't installed any new software/hardware or updates, other than virus/spyware updates.

652998 2008-03-26 20:45:00 What OS are you using?
Are there any flags showing in the device manager?

This sounds like the EXACT problem I had here:

Have you tried another PS/2 mouse on the computer to ensure its not a faulty PS2 port?

653000 2008-03-27 01:20:00 OK, I did a windows restore from a check point I had created last month and still no go.

So I've hunted out an old ps/2 mouse and plugged it in and it seems fine and the problem mouse works fine when plugged straight into USB, so I don't know what the issue is, but I'm going to carry on using the old mouse for now and the USB mouse has a new home in the cupboard.
