652424 2008-03-24 23:26:00 Hey all, after reading the first thread about this its given me alot of information...I got a few more questions to ask.

Current Situation
I want to open a net cafe with about 15 or 20 computers, good net speed for gaming, and some medium downloading.

What is the power bill like for running a internet cafe with x amount of pc's?

What is the internet usuage like for gaming pc's?

Is it worth me buying the PC's on loan or shall I lease them for 36 months etc? because I don't want to be stuck investing into a load of pc's and then having to upgrade them in a years time. Whats the best way to go about this

I read that to save cost on games you can have 1 server where all the games are on, what about games that require logins and CD keys..ie Steam/Warcraft 3.

Also, of course depending on the net cafe...do you get a decent amount of customers and during what time?

I am looking for at quite abit of furniture etc, IE LCD TV's and couches and desks/chairs. What are everyones input in these, is it worth it to lease couches? I want the net cafe to be a relaxing lounge...

If you guys use ventilation what sort of ventilation or cooling do you use at your net cafe? ie like air con/air vents etc etc?

652430 2008-03-25 07:25:00 It depends on your market as to what you offer your clients.

Are you in the middle of a student area where students are your market?
Are you in a small country town where backpacking tourists are your market?

On the backpacker side i saw a netcafe in Twizel that offered computers, laundry, showers, lockers. The computers offered all the main stuff, web, email, games, cd burning, photos to cd machines and several other services.

It seemed to really offer most things the backpacker would need.

Think through your opposition, potential opposition and your market.
eg a bar or accommodation that can offer internet.

And learn how to make good coffee.

Wise words, having been a backpacker and a student I can't echo these words strongly enough. Especially the good coffee.

652432 2008-03-25 21:42:00 hrmm thats for the great advise Bantu... yea i already make good coffee :) so they say... lol and i read in the other thread that its pretty cheap to get $10 hire a month... which is a very good deal. I think with the management software I will be using the freeware one that I found on the other thread too, just for starting out... so my budget is low, but still at the same time keeping my standards on the place in good condition. I rang a few places up already orcon, mercury they all helped me abit.... now I just need abit field research to see what its like before I can do some more figures....Thanks guys for the input :) If anyone has a net cafe and would like to show me around lol thatll be great :D hazenz (5383)
652433 2008-03-26 02:23:00 Once again, location Dependant you will be competing with hotels, motels, normal cafe's in the area most likely. Everyone offers wireless these days for travellers, students and even normal people with a laptop.

I was in Wanaka at Christmas and was speaking to the motel complex owner about their internet connection and they said that a large percentage of guests ask for internet now both in winter and summer for them. Seemingly winter has an influx of skiers and most seem to now carry laptops or some form of contact device that needs internet.

We spent a couple of weeks in Central Otago over Xmas and almost every net cafe was full to overflowing at that time of year so demand that must be good.

I don't have a Net cafe but did look into it several years ago and I did find a few forums and groups that specialised in NZ net cafe info sharing, it was too long ago now so it will not be in my bookmarks anymore.

Maybe do a walking tour of the area you are interested in and spend some time in each of your up-coming opposition's cafe's and see how they run and what they offer. Even if they are a suburb or two away might be worth looking at.

I have used several both here and overseas but just to look up info and check email, no way I would spend hours in any playing games.
