Committee on Small Body Nomenclature Comité pour la nomenclature des petits corps célestes A Committee of IAU Division III "The Committee for Small Body Nomenclature (Small Bodies Names Committee prior to February 2000) has responsibility, under the authority of the IAU, for the names of the small bodies (except satellites of the major planets) in the solar system . The actual naming is administered, under the guidance of the committee, by the Minor Planet Center (MPC) . . . " . . . Which is not funny at all . . . . . . . . BUT go to the bottom of the page where it says "I'm Tired and I Wanna Go Back to:" . . . and click on the button labelled "The Real World" Choice!! :D  Now admit, did you do what it said?? |

How else would you know about minor planet observations? Interestingly, it is an astronomical job which can only be achieved by amateurs . The professionals hog the big telescopes and don't waste their time on minor planets and near-earth objects . |

How else would you know about minor planet observations? No, I am not an amateur astronomer, but was when I was a kid . The above link to The Real World was in The New Scientist magazine which has a humour section on the next to last page of every issue . Along with PCWNZ, I am a regular reader of New Scientist . |
