2008-03-27 08:48:00 Hey peeps,

I have a Compaq Presario R3000 (R3206AP) notebook and just installed Vista on it, (yes, I know I should have checked first but i'm dumb and didn't!!), and then I found out that it's not supposed to support Vista!! But it worked..... mostly. Everything's peachy except for the audio driver. Does anybody know if theres a substitute for the "Realtek AC'97 Audio Driver" that works on Vista and where I could get it?? I've been googling all night and tried the driver from the HP site.... no good!!! I also tried a "SoundMax" driver (i'm not sure which one it was) and it didn't work either..... Im out of ideas, HELP!!!

2008-03-27 08:56:00 See if the windowsupdates site gives you any (even tho most drivers there screw things up) ! Speedy Gonzales (78)
2008-03-27 09:04:00 no good... any other ideas? springa886 (10558)
2008-03-27 09:09:00 What version of Vista is it 32 or 64 bit what? Speedy Gonzales (78)
2008-03-27 09:11:00 32bit, i'm really new to vista, just bought and installed it today. springa886 (10558)
2008-03-27 09:21:00 You can try This download here (www.realtek.com.tw) sometimes the drivers directly from Realtek work other times they dont - its a real hit and miss affair.

OK that may not work - you actually want the ADI 198B driver that works in Vista. ADI198B is the original XP Driver

2008-03-27 09:26:00 nah, that didn't work either, bummer... any ways around this?? can i change the sound card in my laptop somehow? springa886 (10558)
2008-03-27 09:38:00 Edit above = original driver is ADI 1981B ( forgot the 1) looking for any ADI 1981B on vista. wainuitech (129)
2008-03-27 09:43:00 What about this ? (h10025.www1.hp.com) Speedy Gonzales (78)
2008-03-27 09:50:00 Try AUDIO_vista_070424.zip. This is a Realtek generic Vista driver and it worked for me. The Microsoft Windows Update subsequently picked up a further refinement. PENTIUM (426)
