| 653115 | 2008-03-26 21:35:00 | Hi, Recently I bought a Compaq Pressario Laptop from DSE (model: v3645AU) After a few days, my keyboard and the mousepad crashed. :badpc: I went into device manager, and there was an exclaimation mark on the the keyboard and the mousepad. I tried uninstalling both devices and restarting my laptop but they still had an exclaimation mark. The two devices still did not respond. I went back DSE and got a warantee. This time my keyboard and mouse pad stopped working after a few weeks. It said that the keyboard malfunctioned. :annoyed: I went into device manager and this time, there was an exclaimation mark over the "Alps Pointing Device" but no exclaimation make over the keyboard devices. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I could fix this problem? -Thanks PS: If you need to know when it stopped working, the first time I was running a game called MapleStory and I closed the lid of the laptop (and it went to sleep). When I opened the lid, the keyboard and mousepad did not work anymore. as for the second time, I just switched user (locked my user) and closed the lid (the laptop did not go into sleep because I disabled "Sleep mode when the lid is shut"). When I came back, the keyboard and the mousepad did not work and I could not log back on. PPS: I was running Vista when they keyboard and mousepad stopped working. |

Go to the manufactures website and download the latest drivers, see if that fixes it. Otherwise disable sleep/hibernation etc and only shut down the laptop normally. What did DSE do when you took it back to them? There is a possibility it's a faulty motherboard on the laptop. |

Thats the only way I can use my laptop at the moment but I cannont dual-boot into xp (since the keyboard only works after you boot a software like Vista or XP) unfortunately and fortunately, Vista is set to auto boot so after 30 seconds and I dont choose which to boot in, Vista auto boots automatically. When I took it back to them (DSE), they checked it, the keyboad and mousepad did not work and they gave me a new laptop (same model). |

| 653118 | 2008-03-27 09:44:00 | They definitely replaced the whole laptop? With a new one? You tried pulling the battery out? If they aren't working at a pre-windows level, it's definitely a hardware issue of some description. I'd be taking it back again. |

| 653119 | 2008-03-27 23:47:00 | Yeah, they replaced it with a brand new laptop. So I pull the battery out and then what? Is this problem a software problem or hard drive problem? Because if it is a software, I dont think they will replace it. |

| 653120 | 2008-03-29 23:31:00 | I suddenly had the same problem with the same make and model. I took the battery out, put it back in again, and now both the mousepad and the keyboard work just fine :-) | reallysomeoneelse (13542) | ||
