And if you dont know what youre getting

The software doesn't give you viruses. Only n00bs will get viruses off torrents.

That's beside the point anyhow, the OP didn't ask how to stay virus free when downloading torrents.

I like uTorrent. My favourite by far. Light and functional.

653089 2008-03-26 22:18:00 uTorrent - never had a prob with viri - and I've used it for a long time

As long as your a wee bit carefull there's no need to expect any untoward bits and pieces.

Obviously - you can get viri from a lot of things and p2p is potentialy a source of a lot of them, but if you are a little carefull of checking out what you are going to download, I dont see a threat at all.

You just got to read others remarks and make a sensible choice.

653090 2008-03-26 22:23:00 uTorrent and Peer Guardian2 has worked good for me. lazydog (148)
653091 2008-03-26 22:30:00 Yup - uTorrent is the business.

As Speedy suggests, always run a virus & spyware scan on zip/rar files you download before you uncompress them.

And don't leave them running 24/7 if you're not using them.

653092 2008-03-26 22:52:00 Thanks,

I got my answer, uTorrent is used by some of you guys. And thus I will.
I can understand that if we download wrong thing, it can be virus.

I had downloaded BitTorrent before few weeks. But thought, lets ask you guys and use one, you guys suggest.

Thanks again,

653093 2008-03-27 08:35:00 I run Transmission on my Mac, can't wait til they port utorrent onto macs!! Its so easy to create a torrent where Transmission is not user friendly.
And it all depends on which sites you use as far as security is concerned, avoid those ones that have ads with "Girls looking for fun in Auckland tonight..."
.....
or not as the case may be !!

653094 2008-03-27 08:42:00 Doesn't really matter which tracker you're using, as long as the torrent file came from a reputable source - I generally get them from the official site of whatever I am downloading. As the torrent contains a complete hash listing for the data, you can guarantee that whichever file you end up with is the one the distributor of the torrent file intended you to get. Erayd (23)
