| 354778 | 2005-05-13 13:34:00 | Greetings people, my dad wishes me to do some community service at the end of this year (2005). However, my family does not have a car, therefore I can't travel far. I am living in Dannemora, Howick, East Tamaki (Auckland). Is there anyone who knows of a community service center somewhere near my place? Thank you for reading this. Cheers :) |

Well, not so much a winning situation for the car owners, But thats to be expected in a breeding hotspot like Auckland. |

I no longer live in AKL, but can give you this worthy suggestion: ring up your local Citizens Advice Bureau See Here (www.cab.org.nz) also try your city council try here (http://www.manukau.govt.nz/). Probably ringing, instead of email or fax, would be the best thing to do first; then when you get an organization's name - and the person to contact - send them an email or fax or snail mail and after a couple of days give them a ring. And hey, if you do not get any response from the above, contact your local newspaper and complain.... hell, they will probably do a feature article on the (rare) nice :) young person who wants to help the community but gets no response from the CAB and city council. |

In my experience they have noticebords for "public spirited" sorts of organisations, and the librarians themselves will probably know of people to call, though the CAB suggestion is good too. Lots of libraries also have volunteers who help out. :2cents: | mark c (247) | ||
