354385 2005-05-12 08:23:00 I've been looking to buy this:

www.dse.co.nz

But I have a concern. It takes SD type memory cards, and records video at 640 x 480 as MPEG-4. Now as far as I can tell, SD cards come as big as 512mb.

Wouldn't this full up awfully fast? How much recording time should I expect from a 512mb SD card?

354386 2005-05-12 08:35:00 The bigest cards I can find are 1Gb here (www.flashcards.co.nz)

Even 512Mb is lots, it would take a while to fill.

354387 2005-05-12 10:09:00 My current digital camera produces .MOV type video at 320 x 240, and a 32mb SD card gives me 127 seconds of video. Obviously 640 x 480 is going to fill up memory a lot quicker, so does the file type bring the file size down significantly? pine-o-cleen (2955)
354388 2005-05-12 10:51:00 Depending on the compression rate of the video, you should be able to record a long long time using MP4. I've a digital camera that records AVI video at resolution 320 x 240. It took 15 minutes or so to fill up my 128 SD card. As such, MP4 should be able to record much more longer compare to AVI. 354389 2005-05-12 10:54:00 I wouldn't buy any still digital camera on the merits it can shoot video or vive verssa, you will only be disappointed. For a couple of hundred more you could get both. plod (107)
