353795 2005-05-10 02:13:00 My trusty Ironhorse lawn mowing stead of some 20 years has thrown a wobbly. :groan: Problem now is trying to find some parts in order to bring this beast of technology back to life. Specifically, am requiring the 'starter' mechanism ... the bit that the starter cord and recoil spring attach to ... it is circular, has a long spindle attached to it and projects a nylon cog to turn the motor.

If anyone knows of any outlets in the East Auckland area who hold parts, can you please post their location. :help:

353796 2005-05-11 09:18:00 Advertise in Trade & Exchange for the parts. I got a good Iron Horse muffler like that for $10. You could also check local motormower shops for trade-ins that they are going to dump.

My experience has been that you can get almost anything you want via T&E if you are prepared to be patient.

Cheers

353797 2005-05-11 09:20:00 Have you had a look at your local scrap metal dealer or refuse transfer station recycling shop?
In Hamilton you can get a complete mower for around $20.00.
I even think my brother has some of those engines, if you get stuck let me know.

353799 2008-12-01 19:27:00 I also require a starter mechanism for my iron horse. Any NZ sources? Trevor Donald (8076)
353800 2008-12-01 19:39:00 I have quite a few spare ones, remember though they are an assembly an inner bit with shaft and outer cover and spring and the spring has to be wound the right direction. I live in West Auckland im me with ph number you can come here and have one for free.
The bits that are hard to get now is the governor and the return spring (not the windup spring)for the recoil starter.

353803 2008-12-02 04:45:00 "Iron Horse" Thats a blast from the past
It brings back memories (horrifying) of a good mate who broke that particular part on his mower.
Being a mean bastard, instead of buying the new part, he learned how to "flick" start it by turning the mower on its side and "flicking" the blade.
He believed that if he started his model aeroplanes like this, there was no problem doing the same with the mower.
I still shudder when I think about it.
Good luck with the part.

Whaoo, just saw the age of the first post. Long time ago but I hope you like my story.
