653673 2008-04-04 06:21:00 Is the drive connected to its own motherboard IDE channel? As master? Jumper plug and done all correct and stuff? Nomad (952)
653674 2008-04-04 06:21:00 those are some of the possible problems. JUST INSANE (6682)
653675 2008-04-04 06:45:00 When I did my bro's PC .. I had the DVDRW drive on the same channel as the HDD - well actually it was his idea .. and it was slow.... I don't what the best way is but if you are not using both channels of the IDE on the motherboard just give the whole blemin channel for it .. and let it barge itself as master.

Edit.
Your computer is more than fast enof. Faster than mine.
You have enof RAM - more than me.
You could play DVDs with a P3.

go into the settings for ffdshow, then to video codecs and make sure the codec for "mpeg 2" is ticked or selected then reboot and see how you go

653679 2008-04-10 11:10:00  wrong drivers? I would open the computer up .. and find out what model and brand the DVD Drive is .. and then locate drivers and change them.

Edit. When you boot up the computer, what does it say there .. when it list your DVD Drive?
