653657 2008-03-29 06:05:00 Hi

This could be a DMA problem so check to see if you have it enabled . For your convience, I will repeat my reply to an earlier thead:

Sounds like the DMA, (Direct Memory Access), is not enabled . If a high speed drive does not use DMA then it will never reach it's rated speed and the performance will depend on the speed of the CPU .

DMA is a method of transfering data to and from memory with it having to pass through the CPU . As you can imagine it speeds things up dramatically .

Here's how to enable it . (>=Click)

1 . START>CONTROL PANEL>>SYSTEM>HARDWARE>DEVICE MANAGER>+IDE ATA/ATAPI CONTROLLERS

2 . This will now expand to show PRIMARY IDE CHANNEL and SECONDARY IDE CHANNEL .

3 . Right click PRIMARY IDE CHANNEL .

4 . >PROPERTIES>ADVANCED SETTINGS

5 . In the both TRANSFER MODE boxes select DMA IF AVAILABLE .

6 . >Ok

7 . Repeat for SECONDARY IDE CHANNEL .

8 . Close down Control Panel, DMA is now enabled .

9 . Try again
