355293 2005-07-04 00:48:00 Read a couple of reviews on War of the worlds and they weren't very complimentary
They both reckoned Speilberg has lost the plot lately hence the lack of box office success over the last few years
But at the end of the day the public talk with their wallets and critics have had egg on their faces before

355294 2005-07-04 00:58:00 Not that I would trust ME as a movie reviewer. But batman was really good.

Gone are the days of Mr Freeze, and a batsuit with nipples.

355296 2005-07-04 01:09:00 Really looking forward to:
Batman Begins (supposed to be a lot better)
Superman Returns
Indiana Jones 4
King Kong
as well as War of the Worlds and Hitchhikers
And of course Episode 3

Wouldn't it be great if someone gave these (and more) a non-Hollywood interpretation? I find all Hollywood movies have a standard feel and formula about them, that makes them predictable and ultimately, disappointing. This is what I felt after watching Revenge of the Sith.

If you want to see action films not made by Hollywood, I recommend the series of "Lone Wolf and Cub", and "Zatoichi" films, and the films of Akira Kurosawa. These are Japanese-made samurai films. No special effects or gimmicks, no token sex scenes, no handsome heroes or sexpot heroines, no duff scripts, no pity, no concessions to dullards in the audience. Just the raw emotion in the Japanese dialogue delivery, and very sharp swords! Then see the films that tried to ape them - the lame "Samurai" starring the lame Tom Cruise, and the equally lame "Fistful of Dollars" starring the wooden Clint Eastwood, the boring "The Magnificent Seven" etc.

355297 2005-07-04 04:04:00 Saw WotW's when it came out last Wed night and loved it... mind you I've only ever heard Jeff Wayne's musical version, so I didn't have anything to "mark" it against.

King Kong definately looks good - amazing effects.

Oh, and I never believe what the movie reviewers say... people's tastes are different and sometimes you've just got to see it for yourself! :)
