354789 2005-05-15 06:44:00 Work out what your own personal interests are and try to align them with what is needed - also how long you intend to do it for. Holidays? A year? More?

If you like kids and want to devote some serious time - organisations such as Scouts are always looking for leaders. Short term - maybe a holiday camp need leaders.

If you hate the thought of kids but adore old people - help at a community centre.

If you are thinking of getting into a career in computers - ask your local school if they need any extra hands for projects over the Christmas break.

I am intending to do community work during end of this year's holiday only . Maybe around 3-4 or more days per week . I don't have a driver license, so I can't drive people around if they need to . I don't mind working / helping the kids or the octogenarians . I am not hoping for a single cent for my effort, perhaps maybe a testimonial from them? Thanks for the great reply, everyone!

Cheers :)

354793 2005-05-15 10:07:00 It is unfortunate, although funny I guess, that no one has answered seriously.
Hey!.. I tried! CAB and the Lions... They must have something for him to do

354794 2005-05-16 03:12:00 I'm impressed James. Not often in this me-first society do we see young people willing to help out. Good on you. Winston001 (3612)

Point taken.

James, can you share with us which organizations you have contacted, as suggested in this thread? Thanks. As Winston says, it is nice to see a young person (or of any age, for that matter) wanting to do community service. BTW, you have a great father ;) for suggesting that you do this.

Great James! Join the club! As a youth, I find it very hard -almost impossible actually to find young people willing to help. Personally, I am heavily involved with all sorts of organisations targeting the youth in particular. If you can, I highly recommend you seek the Community Services dept in your local council. We are always looking to people to help with either general administration, or, running promotional events/concerts, etc. Chances are, if you do a good job, they'll pay you. ... they are the councils afterall

Off topic, what really annoys me is the fact that my local council (they shall remain nameless) have said to us, we have to use $5k on 'something' before July. Can councils not carry funds into the next year!?

354797 2005-05-16 09:14:00 Greetings people, my dad wishes me to do some community service at the end of this year (2005). However, my family does not have a car, therefore I can't travel far. I am living in Dannemora, Howick, East Tamaki (Auckland). Is there anyone who knows of a community service center somewhere near my place? Thank you for reading this.

Cheers :)
