When??? When users overseas have started using Internet 2 connections and speeds of around 50mbps??? Yeah, maybe our prices will be cheaper then, for a 2mbps connection

Let's just look at the offers Telecom provides... Issit fair reasonable pricing? No! Find me any western or asian country that has more expensive broadband than we do... (Similar speed and 10gb cap)

Like I pointed out in my other thread about business broadband. You either pay $99 for 256/128 for 10gb, or if you want full speed, the cheapest is ~$60 for 600mb only...

That's a bloody rip off!

354165 2005-05-11 14:20:00 I dont get 'business broadband', why is it so expensive? sal (67)
354166 2005-05-11 14:30:00 And that is the issue, Personally Telecom are a company I would choose not to support, unfortunately I don't have that option and just have to open my wallet so those who just made 650m can take more of the paltry few hundred that I work so hard for. The fact that their network generally works is beside the point; it should work for the amount of honest money they take off their "customers".

Now, Some people would say that just because they are happy to live with it then anybody complaining is out of line, crazy logic.

Burn telecom, Burn.

Though the best that can happen is some money draining toothless worm of a committee will decide all is fine, rather then upset a tax god like Telescum.

Telecom does not deserve my business or my money, I resent paying them a cent, and if I want to be pissed off about it, then so be it.

because if your company needs it then you have no option but to sign up for it,and pay Telecom huge wads of cash.

You other option is dial up over dedicated phone lines, charged out by the minute, It would soon escalate past the cost of business adsl, I think the first month after I open my shop I recieved a bill of between $400 and $600 for internet use, I fast tracked the adsl after that.....

Must be great to be a monolopy.

354168 2005-05-11 14:45:00 Regular broadband plans compared to the business 'type'.

$69.95 (2c per extra MB) or $905.78 (10.5c per extra MB)

Exactly same product* for home (www.telecom.co.nz) and business (www.telecom.co.nz), only the price is pumped up more than 1000% :/ WTF?

*actually they might not be, Business is up to 50 times faster than dial up, but also is up to 8 MB down, hmm, I'm confused...

354169 2005-05-11 21:32:00 OH BOO HOO, WHY DO I EVEN HAVE TO PAY FOR MY INTERNET IN THE FIRST PLACE. IT SHOULD BE PROVIDED FREE. WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO PAY TO DOWNLOAD A WHOLE BUNCH OF **** I DON'T NEED IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Get a grip people, it's not going to happen. We're getting a pretty good deal considering the situation.

Keeping an open mind, are there any other countries that are similar to NZ in population density, distribution & terrain etc where broadband is faster and more widely available? If so, there could be a legitimate argument for more avaliability, faster speed and lower prices.

If not, maybe these aggravating issues are simply a consequence of low population numbers, geographic isolation, and plain old commercial economics.

Volume sales reduce prices.

354173 2005-05-12 05:40:00 Let me present to you the broadband situation in... Scotland! (Where I was on study exchange for a few months)

Grassy farmland, sparse populations... very much like ours, I'll say...

Phone lines are by large controlled by BT (british telecom)

But yet, with a good policy of unbundling and wholesaling services introducing the all important "competition" to bring prices down.......Broadband there costs?

No more than NZ$50 for a 2mbps connection, unlimited cap.... And most of the rural exchanges have been upgraded to broadband-capable as well.
