Thanks for all your replies and memories. We have been able to find a small locksmithing bussiness here in Invercargill who not only got it opened undamaged, but also made us a key, all for only $10.00. I cannot say enough about how much help we were able to get from these guys, would it be improper to name them? as this sort of service is unfortuatley becoming rare.

Hi Ernie
I work at the local hospice shop and we have had a money filled bank donated but like others have no key. If we could open it without resource to a locksmith whose charge would diminish any benefit for the hospice we would prefer to do it ourselves. Would it be possible to describe the profile of the action end of the key?

354078 2005-11-19 02:29:00 See if your local locksmith will do it for nothing as a contribution to society. It won't take them long. :) Graham L (2)
354079 2005-11-19 04:59:00 Sell it as-is in the Hospice shop for a $50 donation. That will beat any amount of old cash in it, which you wouldn't be able to exchange now anyway.

What part of the country are you in?

Cheers

That is great news Rny. Go ahead and tell us who the locksmiths are. They deserve to be known and appreciated.

354083 2005-11-24 04:34:00 Hi Winston001,
Just caught up on posts to my 6 months, or so, old query. The helpfull locksmith was KEE-WEE Lock & Repair Company, 6 Kelvin Street, Invercargill.

To nzclox, if you still require info on the key, it has CHENEY on one side, and the number 30 on the other. Maybe this is a code number. I dont have the resources to post a photo of the key but perhaps I could send you an outline of it if we are allowed to exchange contacts through this forum.

354084 2005-11-24 05:04:00 That will be a blank made by Cheney, and it will be number 30 in their catalogue. ;)

Just another thought about the Hospice's moneybox. If it was opened, I bet you'ld get $5 or $10 for a penny or halfpenny on Trademe. Sixpences, and shillings, and halfcrowns would bring in real money. :D
