On the other hand stupid morons of human decent who want a creature to dominate and treat badly are. Theres more than a few out there who seem to only have a dog for the joy of having something that will put up with being yelled at tied up and generally "put in its place". Worse still are the stupid tuff ones who are so afraid of the world that they get a dog for "protection". Such a beast must be kept staunch. This is not achieved by allowing the poor creature to feel content and secure. It is acheived by mistreating the animal and keeping it as scared as the owner, so that it will see anyone as a threat to be barked at and/or attacked. Such animals will also need to assert thier rank, and will most likely attack those who are friendly and/or part of the family. My own tart, Pugwash the dog (http://pugwash.orcon.net.nz) , has been with me for nearly 14 years. She's allowed almost everywhere i am, including most of the places i work at. I take her to pubs and she solicates affection out of most of the people who see her. People usually queue up to be able to pat the lovely dog. She is confident and loved. She is loyal to everyone. In her golden years shes not as keen on partys, gigs, and big outings as she once was. She tends to want a lay down rather than continuiously enjoy all this activity she once could. I have taken her hitchiking around the North Island many years ago with along with my girlfriend of the time. Theres photos taken on that holiday posted up on her website. (she's so cute) She is my most loyal companion. Apart from her attacking rubbish bags, bringing home prizes, and giving poodles hell she really isnt a problem, and of course those traits can be mananged. Pugwash isn't allowed out Sunday night or Monday morning, Monday being rubbish day. The poodle thing can be managed just by moving her along. I firmly believe that it is people that should be licenced rather than the animals they keep. :groan: |

One can't blame the dog, it's a rotten life being chained up 24/7 . I don't call that pet ownership, more like imprisonment . The barking's driving the neighbours nuts (not just me) . I just can't believe the owners are seemingly ignorant of the commotion going on in their own backyard . Thanks for posting this . Our neighbour also has a rottie in a small kennel, as you describe . Once we went over to see if the dog was in trouble and then saw how small the kennel was, so we knocked on the door to see if anyone was home, around 8 AM, and a half awake young man appeared . . . . . was surprised at our concern . . . . the result is that the dog does not bark as much, but still does some time . I will try to contact the SPCA to see what they say about such a situation . BTW, have contacted our local dog control officer several times over the years . When it was a good officer (it is a job people do not stay long in) we got very good results, otherwise nothing was done . |
