653426 2008-03-27 22:26:00 Good morning all - so far, so good. The major problems at the moment are:

1. Not able for my computer to 'see' previously installed drive. This drive contains data only, is a SATA drive (the new/OS drive is an IDE drive). Bios (and Everest & Belarc Advisor also) sees the drive OK. Suggestions would be welcome - or I may have to resort to visiting Greven!

2. No sound!! When I try to play music on Quintessential Player I get the message 'Sound card error'.

Both of these situations were without problems before the installation of new HDD (IDE) and Windows XP Pro install on the new HDD. :(

653427 2008-03-27 22:33:00 Ok...

Have you installed all the drivers?

Do you know how to take and post a screenshot (www.microsoft.com)?

It would be good if we could see a screenshot of your device manager.

653428 2008-03-27 22:37:00 You should keep the same topic in one thread. It'll make it easier for others to help you

Can a mod merge this (pressf1.co.nz)

And this (pressf1.co.nz)

With this thread. Since they all relate to the same problem

653430 2008-03-27 22:45:00 Oops - sorry about that. :(

Attached file: Device_manager1206657582.jpg (www.imagef1.net.nz) (67 KB) is my screen shot I think.

When I look sound properties (can't remember how I got there!) it said that there was 'No audio device'. I seems to me that all this might relate to lack of drivers. I DID download and install the drivers available on the Gigabyte site...

653431 2008-03-27 22:54:00 That multimedia audio controller entry, is the soundcard, the drivers arent installed

What else have you got that USB?? Try deleting that USB device and reboot see if it comes back

653432 2008-03-27 23:08:00 Right click my computer>manage>disk manager and check if the old sata drive is there, you may just need to assign a drive letter SolMiester (139)

Right - one thing at a time! Yes! I think that might be the problem - disk 1 (which I think it is - the 'lost' one, that is, has a yellow warning sign on it. No drive name.

Sooo - how do I give it one?? :)

653434 2008-03-27 23:42:00 Ah ha - that's sorted, I now have my HDD with ALL my photos on it back again . Photographers will appreciate the joy! (Although I do have a backup somewhere else) .

So - onwards and upwards . I tackle the sound now . :(
