Yep, your right there and i've found a nifty little programe that converts your avi video files into what eva format the phone uses(most common is .3GP). You just select the format you want to convert to and drag and drop you files into it and it does the rest.
The progames called " 3GP_Converter ". Its made in japan, i think, but has a english language selection.
I'll see if i can find the link again. Found it while surfing.

Most new phones support mp4 including several from Sony Ericsson which have been available for sometime now.

Well i was asking about all phones in general. I didn't realise that there was different formats used by different phones but that little program up there^encodes them all anyway.
