354778 2005-05-13 13:34:00 Greetings people, my dad wishes me to do some community service at the end of this year (2005). However, my family does not have a car, therefore I can't travel far. I am living in Dannemora, Howick, East Tamaki (Auckland). Is there anyone who knows of a community service center somewhere near my place? Thank you for reading this.

Cheers :)

354779 2005-05-13 13:53:00 All you will need to do is head out after dark and break into a few cars, if you don't get caught you get to keep all the free goodies,if you do get caught you will simply be directed to the local Community Service center, which is what you want anyhow, a win-win situation.

Well, not so much a winning situation for the car owners, But thats to be expected in a breeding hotspot like Auckland.

354781 2005-05-13 20:35:00 Can't travel far? But you live in Auckland? Catch a bus - there are hundreds of places you could try throughout Auckland all within the range of a bus or three. That's if the busdrivers ever start driving again...

WHy not ring thr local CAB and ask them? Or the Lions.
Does it have to be some recognised charity?

354785 2005-05-14 00:29:00 It is unfortunate, although funny I guess, that no one has answered seriously. I no longer live in AKL, but can give you this worthy suggestion: ring up your local Citizens Advice Bureau See Here (www.cab.org.nz) also try your city council try here (http://www.manukau.govt.nz/). Probably ringing, instead of email or fax, would be the best thing to do first; then when you get an organization's name - and the person to contact - send them an email or fax or snail mail and after a couple of days give them a ring.

And hey, if you do not get any response from the above, contact your local newspaper and complain.... hell, they will probably do a feature article on the (rare) nice :) young person who wants to help the community but gets no response from the CAB and city council.

354786 2005-05-15 04:46:00 Check out your local library. In my experience they have noticebords for "public spirited" sorts of organisations, and the librarians themselves will probably know of people to call, though the CAB suggestion is good too. Lots of libraries also have volunteers who help out. :2cents: mark c (247)

I suggest carrying speakers for your local sound hire company :p
