354154 2005-05-11 10:09:00 sorry but i am just having a rant at the moment but I really F***ing hate telecom and there stangle hold on broadband and other internet and phone stuff.
as most people who know live in NZ, broadband over here sucks big time as telecom hold all the strings and no one can do a thing about it. So you pay a fortune for things.
if it wasn't for vodafone telcome could sell them a brick with a wire in it and that would be a mobile.
So I won't even start on broadband or thats what they (telecom think it's called over here, something that is ( unlimted ) remember that word ( unlimted ) but you have a LIMIT on how much you can use and if you go over your LIMIT either your speed gets reduced or you pay, what was that word again ( unlimted ).
Now I know not everyone is a tech junkie like me or uses the internet from home as much as I do and I need it for work as I do most of my work from home and over the internet (confused) **** I am , anyway I am just in a bad mood.

One thing's for sure, nothing's going to change in a hurry.

I blame the government as much as I blame Telecon/Telescum/Telecrum (whatever you like to call them). They had the chance to do something about it, yet they procrastinated and had the wool pulled over their eyes.

Would it be too much to ask to have a 1mbit/256k adsl connection, unlimited? Why are we still talking in kilobits these days?
Not long ago the standard home broadband connection was jetstart 128/128. Now it's 256/128 - where will we be this time next year?

And how many of those 250,000 broadband customers that Telecom are aiming to get by the end of the year will have a true broadband connection? 256k isn't broadband, and any fast connection with a prohibitive usage allowance (eg 1GB a month) shouldn't be counted either.

Telecom is great, it supplies me with an internet connection that is fast, cheap and reliable. I never go over my cap, since they give me so much anyway, all in all, Telecom is great, I dont know why everyone complains about them.

354161 2005-05-11 12:08:00 I was thinking more along the lines of Growly :nerd:

Anyhow, Im pretty sure those that think Telecom provide value for money just have no idea about the value of money, this would be those awash with coin, and people who don't pay the bills .

354162 2005-05-11 12:18:00 The easiest way to get some of your money back is to buy shares in Telecom. I make money out of the shares, they give me phone lines and internet with a high uptime, so hey I'm satisfied. Yes the ADSL isn't technically broadband but it's a lot faster and more reliable than dial-up hell for not too much more than the 'all-you-can-eat' plans. Plus you get a discount if you have your tolls with them.

Now you have got your bad mood off your chest, what exactly is your beef mode73? Did you go over your limit?

354163 2005-05-11 12:19:00 I don't really understand why you guys get all these problems, or get so het up about Telecom . I use Xtra (full speed Jetstream) and have had it since the very beginning . My connection works fine, all day, every day and I have had just one service outage (faulty card at the exchange) which the Telecom contractor went out of his way to fix that same day .

How many of your difficulties might be caused by your house telephone wiring or your hardware? I made an effort to ensure that my line from point of entry to my ADSL outlet was compliant with Telecom's published spec, including changing to 2-wire jackpoints . It sure didn't do any harm, and I'm pretty sure it is one of the reasons why I enjoy fast & reliable service all day, every day .

I make a point of staying within my cap (they automatically warn you when you get close to your limit anyway) and complaining because you lose speed when you go over is a futile exercise . You know the rules, you signed up for them .

The only gripe I have is the price, and that will come down in the end, but even so I consider it reasonable value for money given the reliability of the service and the constant speed .

I suppose it helps to vent your feelings once in a while, but it does start to sound like a lot of winging moaners sometimes, and Telecom isn't listening . In their shoes I wouldn't either .

Of course, that just my opinion and I could be wrong . It's been known to happen, as my kids delight in pointing out .

Cheers
