2008-03-30 11:17:00 | As an alternative to using xmlTVNZ, I have come across this little gem (gbpvr.com). It does the same as what reven's xmlTVNZ does, and imo is easier to use. Be aware that half the steps outlined on the page are no longer nescessary, simply running the .bat file for the first time will automatically bring up the gui menu to choose what channels you want to download for. btw, GB-PVR is a nice, lightweight, FAST alternative to MCE. Best for if you have hardware based analog tuner(s) and/or dvb-s/t tuner(s). Software based tuner cards will NOT work with this program.

2008-03-31 08:46:00 | I currently run Vista Media Center using Revens xmlTVNZ. Works great for me and certainly makes the whole media center experience much better. Reven says he plans to make a free release of version 3 in the near future. (Version 3 is the only one that really works at the moment - 2.5.? is freely available but not really supported anymore) With a minimum "donation" of $10 you can get the Beta version now (which is what I am using) There is also an easy to use setup guide written on the site for setting it up with Vista. This was done pre Vista SP 1 and may need a bit of tweaking to get going now if you have updated. | mattv (11815) | |
2008-03-31 10:19:00 | hey guys, thanx for the input. I'm really new to Vista and MCE so I have a few more questions. I clicked on the link that Sherman threw up there (this little gem), downloaded and followed the install instructions and would like to know, now what? It looks like the program completed correctly. What are these programs supposed to do? I was expecting there to be a guide to all the TV shows or something of the sort in MCE. Am I missing something? | springa886 (10558) | |

Sorry, that was more for some of the other folks I guess.. You need to setup this (www.xpmediacentre.com.au) to get a guide going with MCE. There are also furthur instructions on that xmlTVNZ page I linked to earlier which can be adapted to the different XMLTV source. Good Luck. |

2008-03-31 22:47:00 | I should probably also add that I never got BladeRunner Pro working on my PC, but then again I didn't try very hard... There might be other folks here who have got it working who can help you with it, or the folks at http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/ can probably help you.

2008-03-31 23:11:00 | Hey guys, I have no idea what XMLTVNZ is, but if it does what I want, is there a step by step guide for dummies to installing and using it? You use it from a command prompt, type in xmltvnz in a command prompt, it'll tell you what to do. I tried it with my Leadtek tuner, with their PVR2 program. Works pretty good on the free to air channels. (Not the freeview channels)

2008-04-01 05:11:00 | I'm still having major problems trying to get the guide to work. I tried to follow the link that Sherman gave me in post #14, but I think they have updated BladeRunner Pro and the install guide is now incorrect. I clicked "I Agree" and it installed itself and told me to click "Finish." The install guide says there should be all of these different options and things. I have installed both BladeRunner Pro and gbpvr (link in post #11) and have had no success. I would like to undo/uninstall what I have done/installed but dont know what to do about the gbpvr program. Any ideas? Is it installed somewhere and do I need to uninstall it? I would really like to have the guide in MCE working for me, but it doesn't look good. If anyone has the time and would like to take me thru the process step by step, it would be greatly appreciated!

GB-PVR doesn't need bladeRunner Pro, you just point it at the tvguide.xml file (I can't remember if that's what the file is called) that the xmlTVNZ program created. To uninstall GB-PVR, go Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove programs. Select GB-PVR from the list and uninstall it. Alternatively, if you want to pursue it further, I can help with setting up GB-PVR. Sorry I couldn't be of more help with BladeRunner Pro, As I said earlier, I never got it working myself... BTW: What TV tuner(s) do you have? |

2008-04-01 05:49:00 | This (www.gigabyte.com.tw) is my TV card. I'm keen as to sort this problem out. I don't mind what programs I have to use as long as it works!! How do I go about using GB-PVR?? | springa886 (10558) | |
2008-04-01 05:59:00 | Hmm, doesn't look like it's supported by GB-PVR.. I'll tell you what, I'm gonna have another play around with BladeRunner Myself, see if I can get it working. If I can, I'll be sure to let you know exactly how I did it, and what to do to get it working.
