355876 2005-05-18 03:55:00 I have 12 people using computers in my flat (it's a huge flat with 15+ individuals living in it)...

Geez James, that's not a flat, it's a hostel! I hope the flat has more than one bathroom+toilet. And how do you determine who gets to watch their favourite program on the telly? :@@:

Are you sure you're not on a Big Brother series?

355877 2005-06-08 08:36:00 The broadband infrastructure is very backward here in NZ . . and yes . . what are they waiting for? Most Asian countries have 2mb UNLIMITED broadband whereas here, we have 2mbits but with a 10GB download cap . I have 12 people using computers in my flat (it's a huge flat with 15+ individuals living in it) and 10GB would mean no download whatsoever save web browsing only .

Come on people . . . we need to catch up with the rest of the world . . . . This is like a long-distance race only we are currently several laps behind everyone else .

In my home town, I never heard anything called "data cap" since first time the broadband technology emerged(now I know in New Zealand) . The average is 8MB DL/512KB UL at the moment . Heavy users can have 12MB DL or even faster . But guess what, people still protesting because they think it's still not fast enough . The fact is, there are even better internet connection in other asian countries .

So . . . New Zealand is really behind the world, i mean "really" .

Yes, im an asian, sorry about my English :)

355878 2005-06-08 09:06:00 Don't worry - your english is fine.

What really annoys me is that the government has lots of so called "initiatives", but so many of them aren't going to even BEGIN until 2007/8. Why??? The Govt has the $6bill of excess tax revenue from us NOW, why do they have to wait? Or are they planning for the next election already?

355879 2005-06-08 09:49:00 How much of that bandwidth will be used up by the Pubs/Clubs, having to have all there Gaming Machines hooked up for centeral monitoring which, has it happens, is suposed to be done by 2007. Coinsidence?Yes coinsidence.
The amount of data used in monitoring a hall of gaming machines wouldn't register as a percentage of the data even our retarded ADSL lines happily move now.

Another problem I can see is I haven't seen any significant protesting or activity to push the govt or the monopoly to improve. Before we had this kind of protesting with thousands of people and it was really push the govt to request better service from the monopoly company.

355881 2005-06-08 11:42:00 I think it's called apathy. By and large, people have given up, they've realised the the Govt and industry players with any clout either, really have no clue or are only paying lip service. Either way it suits them. Murray P (44)
