654550 2008-03-31 06:50:00 Hi all,my friend came to me with a problem. When ever he tries downloading and saving any excel file's from the internet they end up being saved as .php files.
I got him to try and go file save as and then select the file type from the drop down menu but .php is the only one listed.

When he tries to open the .php files with excel they come up with all kind of random characters and are unreadable,I know that Excel files aren't a .php file extension.

Does anyone have a clue why his pc only wants to save downloaded excel documents as .php files?

Edited: had a link to software but its a dead link:crying

654552 2008-03-31 09:14:00 The thing is if i try to download the same file as my mate through my pc it doesn't have a problem saving it as a excel doc Krisby5 (13221)
654553 2008-03-31 09:21:00 It's probably a browser issue. See if changing the file extension to ".xls" of the ones he's already downloaded helps. sal (67)
654554 2008-03-31 09:41:00 Ok.I'll get him to give it a try Krisby5 (13221)
654555 2008-03-31 17:45:00 Are you both using the same browser? what about saving into google docs spreadsheet or even open office? gary67 (56)
654556 2008-03-31 19:44:00 No,he was using IE and I use Firefox. Krisby5 (13221)
654557 2008-03-31 20:17:00 It sounds like your friend is trying to save the webpage rather than the download file.

Have you actually seen what your friend is doing?

If you both have broadband you could try using teamviewer (www.teamviewer.com) its free for personal use and works really well. It lets you connect to their PC.

654558 2008-03-31 21:32:00 If your friend is right-clicking the link, then clicking save, tell him to just left-click it instead. Many sites use a redirect script to trigger the download, and the link 'to the file' doesn't actually point there. Erayd (23)
