| 654421 | 2008-03-30 22:15:00 | I've got a pretty old 5.25" Quantum Bigfoot hard drive that I'd like to retrieve some data from (some old uni stuff), before I discard it. Can you suggest what I do to get the stuff using my current P4 3.00 WinXP Pro SP1 system? Thanks for any advice. |

| 654430 | 2008-04-08 00:20:00 | Well I got around to trying to transfer the data today, and what a let-down. First I had to disconnect the dvd drive so that I could have a molex and ide cable reach the Bigfoot drive resting on the top of the case. I set the drive as slave on the secondary ide. Booted up and the drive wasn't recognised. It didn't even appear in the boot screen. The drive itself was running, with a blinking light on the visible part of its circuit board. Windows loaded up, but the drive wasn't visible in any of Windows Explorer, Disk Manager or Device Manager. I shut down and changed jumper to Secondary Master. During the reboot the drive appeared. Yay I thought! But once into Windows same invisibility. *groan* The drive has Win98 SE installed... could this be the problem? If not, what else? Thanks. |
