2008-03-30 07:21:00 | Hi guys, Does anybody know how to set up the TV "Guide" in Media Centre on Vista to get New Zealand info? it asks me for my postal code and i've entered Auckland's, Wellington's, and Hamilton's to no avail!! Any ideas?

2008-03-30 08:06:00 | That's because there is no official, MCE supported guide for New Zealand. It is possible to get an epg working, but it involves XMLTV, and a program called BladeRunnerPro to get going. See here for more info (www.reven.co.nz)

2008-03-30 08:20:00 | Yes that's correct. There are no official EPG in NZ because all the interested parties cannot agree. I believe one of the "unofficial" local EPG provider was threatened sometime ago. Reven's site is the closest you will get. I ditched my Media Centre sometime ago because of the hassle with EPG. | ephesus (2509) | |
2008-03-30 08:41:00 | what would be a better solution? I have Nero 8, and also cyberlink power theatre (I think thats what it's called!!!) and both programs can do the same things MCE can do, just slower. | springa886 (10558) | |

2008-03-30 08:55:00 | Can you get EPG on Nero8 and Cyberlink?:horrified No. That's because there is no EPG data available through official channels. TVNZ/Canwest etc. refuse to make it available, and have threatened third party providers with legal action if they do. The only two options are: - Freeview (Satelite or Terrestrial) - 3rd party applications like XMLTVNZ etc.

2008-03-30 09:47:00 | Or pre-done DVB rips (epg.pvr.geek.nz). Those are updated daily, and ideally suited for use with MythTV. I'm not sure how easy they would be to get working with MCE though. | Erayd (23) | |
2008-03-30 10:03:00 | Hey guys, I have no idea what XMLTVNZ is, but if it does what I want, is there a step by step guide for dummies to installing and using it? | springa886 (10558) | |
2008-03-30 10:27:00 | It's a program for generating xmltv listings by scraping the official websites for listings. The working (beta) version required a donation, so before you buy it I strongly recommend you make sure that MCE is actually compatible with xmltv listings. If it's not, and you're not using freeview, then you're stuffed - there are no other sources. | Erayd (23) | |
2008-03-30 10:36:00 | Or pre-done DVB rips (epg.pvr.geek.nz). Those are updated daily, and ideally suited for use with MythTV. I'm not sure how easy they would be to get working with MCE though. I did have this epg source set up in Vista MCE at once stage but been a while. What channels are you needing the EPG for? Just free-to-air, Sky and/or Freeview? Have a look on Geekzone.co.nz as that's where I got all the info from.
