| 359131 | 2005-05-28 05:04:00 | Looking at buying a Playstation 2 or XBox (not sure which). Not so much for the gaming (although that'll be a bonus I suppose). Which is the easier/cheaper/best to mod? Add HDDs to (can they take standard PC IDE drives?)? Put some type of OS on? Watch AVIs or other videos etc. on? Or should I be looking for some type of PVR or at least some kind of hardware to watch movies etc. on (in the price range of the consoles + other required gear above)? As you can tell I know stuff-all about consoles etc. :D So any suggestions as to what I might want, where I might get it, and for how much would be appreciated. Thanks :) Mike. |

Its a lot easier to understand answers from people who have the experience, and who can explain more if you don't understand. I am a complete console newbie, and so I don't even know what to ask. Trademe doesn't help, as I don't know what to look for. Thanks anyway though :) Mike. |

| 359137 | 2005-05-28 22:01:00 | I used to have a standard PS2, but now have a modded X-Box with a 200GB hard drive in it. Works great, stores and plays back all my media in it. The "xbox media centre" (XBMC) in it is a bit old now, but i am sure you can download and upgrade to the latest releases yourself. Never tried it yet though as it runs fine. Anyone out there got a modded PS2 and their thoughts?.... |

What was the cost of this? Does it take standard PC IDE hard drives? Thanks, Mike. |

| 359140 | 2005-05-29 00:50:00 | Nah, I dont know how to mod it myself  I went to www.promods.co.nz . They have all the necessary info on their site, including pricing. They use just standard IDE hard drives, which you can supply yourself if you can sorce it cheaper, which is what I did. :D |
