| 359002 | 2005-05-27 22:12:00 | Hi Everyone It all started when i wanted to enter the 2005 netguide web challenge Unfortuatly i needed a team as only secondary school students can enter the competition as indiviual So what i did was asked my teacher if our class could enter the class category. He thought it over and said YES But if the class was going to do this then i would have to teach them So we need your help Most of the students are at band during my alloted time so they wont be entering I am left with a taskforce of 10 students who are absolute DUNCES when it comes to web sites. What should i teach them so they can flourish and i can look really smart. my class is the smart class and are rather intelligent so can handle hard work Not too hard though :o :eek: :eek: :D All help Appreciated Techiekid |

Get together and decide what your webpage is about and what you want it to convey. Do a simple diagram with your main page and what pages lead off from that. That gives you some structure. Next is the creative part. Colours, layouts, style and theme. Hit the internet and find pages that have things that you like the look of. Example, the way one website uses a combination of colours for background, headings, sections that you think looks nice. Then look at what page layouts appeal to you, and so on. The idea is to get ideas and your teams creative juices flowing, and not to just copy someone else. Remember that part, as the competition is to reflect your ideas and work. As your team is rather new at this, the best thing you can do is keep it simple as possible and avoid any over the top feature. Web development isn't just coding the page, it is also the design and functionality that goes into it. :) |

| 359007 | 2005-05-28 03:49:00 | Check out the previous winners and the comments about them . Find out what they did right, what set them above the others . List their attributes and use those ideas in your site . The more planning you do the less creation you have to do . From what I have seen there is a strong graphic element in the designs, original, creative, stylish = dreamweaver, over plain, rectangular boxy = Frontpage . Also noted small Flash elements as well . In some ways this isn't fair, not all schools can aford dreamweaver . All this demands a long time in teaching, graphics, style, html, flash, its not a quick process . Personally I would judge more on code and cleanness instead of "point and click" technologies . |

Their advise -entered as a team- was to split the work load. Get some to do the content, some to do the 'design', and one to actually make it. That way, you save time, in your case, of teaching other people stuff about web building -and you get the quality from different people each specialising in their area. |
