357898 2005-05-24 01:12:00 I've got a Sharp Carousel microwave oven that I bought about a year ago from Warehouse, which is just out of it's one year warranty (parallel import). I had it switched off at the wall for four days while I was out of town, and now the small LCD display has gone all garbled.

Anyone know if this is fixable?

Thanks.

357899 2005-05-24 01:40:00 Probably not fixable economically.

I would power it down again, for as long as you can (to let the supercap discharge) and see if it reboots OK next time.

What operating system does it run ....?

357900 2005-05-24 01:43:00 LOL do you have a receit for it?

LOL take it back then??? we have been thro quite a few microwaves....this last 18 months....and explain that most of them have been in storage and just opened and doesnt go...or hardly used and doesnt go now?....

mind you we buy in bulk...usually about 6 at a go?

and last record was 4 microwaves in less than a month...in my kitchen...i wonder why:p

did it get moisture in the screen / numbers part? steam from opening the door maybe?

357901 2005-05-24 01:57:00 I have an idea that I've seen mention of a Sharp microwave model which had problems with the LCD dying, and Sharp were paying for the replacement.

To save me typing the link, give Google "sharp r350e" and check out the Silicon Chip article at the top. (There's also a PDF file about 4 down which might eb the instrucyoions for fitting a replacement)

Thanks for the input.

I've tried the "power down" exercise. No Better. The damnable thing is that it's probably the cheapest component in the machine. But cooking-wise it's a great unit.

Operating system? Probably Mac! :D

357903 2005-05-24 02:03:00 But it may not be as simple as just "the LCD display", the microcontroller driving it may have karked. godfather (25)
357904 2005-05-24 02:09:00 And i promise i havnt been any where near your place.....
