654990 2008-04-02 10:46:00 My olds just got a nice new LCD-TV.. So I wanna naturally get another Media PC setup (just to watch, dont care about recording)... Chilling_Silence (9)
654991 2008-04-03 00:05:00 Does anyone know if that card actually works with the NZ version of DVB-T? From what I can see it does "hardware MPEG-2 encoding" and as I understand things, to get NZ DVB-T we need "software" encoding and MPEG 4 (H.264) support.

It would be a great card if it actually works...

Looks as if the MPEG2 hardware encoding is on the analogue side only (at a quick glance/read).

654992 2008-04-03 00:31:00 It's hardware-accelerated decoding that makes the difference - if you are using hardware acceleration, it must be compatible with the type of h.264 used by freeview. Otherwise, software decoding will work fine, but you need a pretty grunty CPU for it. Erayd (23)

Or a new mainboard with the AMD 780G chipset, then even a Sempron 3200+ is enough to watch a Blu-Ray movie :p

Sorry, meant decoding!
Yes, you'll need software decoding in H.264 and AAC for DVB-T (digital tv), and youll need to pay for the codecs to do it. (See post #4 in this thread)

(Bletch) It's hardware-accelerated decoding that makes the difference - if you are using hardware acceleration, it must be compatible with the type of h.264 used by freeview. As far as I know there's no cards available that will do that in hardware (yet).

654998 2008-04-25 22:40:00 Hi there guys.
Did anybody install PixelView B1000 TV (both analog and DVB-T) card, and did anybody have a good reception in Browns Bay/Torbay area on the Shore? I bought a cheapest card on PryceSpy to try, analog TV goes perfectly, but digital does not go. Please help, if anybody has any idea how to make it work.

654999 2008-04-26 02:35:00 DVB-T will not 'go', as the software that comes with it only 'does' the most common video and audio coders/decoders (codecs) which are Mpeg2 and AC3 or similar (which is not what NZ/Freeview transmits, which is Mpeg4 and AAC); see post #17 and here (www.geekzone.co.nz). feersumendjinn (64)
