You can easily mod your own Xbox.

The ability to throw in any off-the-shelf HDD into your Xbox makes it so worthwhile!
Save games/DVD's, run Linux on it, emulators (Running my old N64 games without having to plug my old machine in)

XBMC is great for streaming media of any type across the LAN from my Desktop. Either that or I can use the built-in ftp server to send the media files across directly to it and use it to as a portable media center!

Think of it like this:
Dont ask Why, as why not!?!

359142 2005-05-30 02:20:00 I'd go with an Xbox, mainly because of all the software that is available for a modded one, if you know where to look.
I've just put a modchip and 160GB HDD into a mates Xbox over the weekend.
Not too hard if you know how to solder. It was one of the latest versions (1.6) and was harder to do than an older version (1.0-1.5) but not too bad.
Also, you would need a bigger HDD too make full use of the modchip.
This allows you to store movies, music, apps and games directly on the Xbox.

359143 2005-05-30 04:33:00 I just downloaded and installed the latest build of Xbox Media Center and it looks pretty damn good! And added some new features. Looks like you can fast forward a music file now! CYaBro (73)

Cheers,
Mike.

359145 2005-05-30 12:47:00 Any HDD, and you can use the likes of SlaYerS Auto-Installer to format it appropriately/automatically.

You then use the built-in ftp server to send across XBMC :)
